Coach Dan McDonnell visited last weekend with the seven Louisville players still competing this summer in the Cape Cod League.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Here is the latest Louisville baseball summer update with highlights on the progress of the Cardinals' 21 players competing this summer.
Louisville's 21 underclassmen are assigned to four different wooden bat leagues this summer as well as the USA Collegiate National Team. Following the completion of the collegiate summer season, players will return to campus for the fall semester in late August to continue the Cardinals' preparation for the 2015 college baseball season.
Listed below are updates on the progress of some of the Cardinals during summer league action as well as a complete list of 2014 Louisville baseball summer assignments.

USA Collegiate National Team
- Righthanded pitcher Kyle Funkhouser and the Team USA finished the summer with a series loss at Cuba last week. Funkhouser was charged with a tough-luck loss despite a strong outing allowing just one run on two hits with eight strikeouts in 5.2 innings. In six appearances and five starts for Team USA this summer, Funkhouser was 1-2 with a 1.27 ERA (four earned runs in 28.1 innings) and a team-high 36 strikeouts while allowing just eight walks and 15 hits.
Cape Cod League
- In five appearances and four starts this summer for the Wareham Gatemen, lefthander Drew Harrington has a 1-1 record with a 1.52 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 17.2 innings pitched.
- Righty pitcher Zack Burdi has 10 relief appearances this summer for the Chatham Anglers going 1-1 with a save, a 2.34 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 15.1 innings.
- Lefty pitcher Josh Rogers is 2-1 on the summer for the Bourne Braves with a 3.96 ERA in five starts and 25.0 innings in the Cape Cod League.
- In nine relief appearances this summer for the Bourne Braves, righty Jake Sparger is 1-0 with a 4.61 ERA and seven strikeouts in 13.2 innings pitched.
New England League
- In 33 games for the Vermont Mountaineers, infielder Blake Tiberi is second in the New England League in hitting with a .385 average to go with two home runs, seven doubles, one triple, 21 runs scored, 10 RBI and 13 walks. Tiberi was also a starter for the victorious North squad in the 2014 NECBL All-Star Game.
- With back-to-back three-hit games on July 27-28, infielder Nick Solak raised his summer average with the Vermont Mountaineers to .294 overall and has scored 10 runs in 20 games played.
- Lefty pitcher Robert Strader has a 2.07 ERA to go with a 1-2 record and one save in seven relief outings and 13.0 innings pitched this summer for Vermont.
- In seven relief outings this summer for the North Adams SteepleCats, righty pitcher Jonah Philley has a 1.92 ERA to go with a 1-2 record and six strikeouts in 9.1 innings.
Coastal Plain League
- In 18 starts for the High Point-Thomasville Hi-Toms, outfielder Logan Taylor has a .419 average with 18 runs scored, 11 walks, eight RBI and 11 stolen bases.
