Cardinals Drop Middle Game in Arlington
February 21, 2026 | Baseball
ARLINGTON, Texas – The University of Louisville baseball team suffered an 8-5 defeat against Michigan on Saturday at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
The loss snaps a three-game win streak for the Cardinals and moves them to 3-3 overall.
Louisville struck first on Saturday, getting a pair of triples in the opening frame. Lucas Moore sent a 1-1 pitch into the right field corner for his second three-bagger of the season and Tague Davis later lined one past the diving centerfielder for his first career triple to make it a 1-0 contest.
Jake Bean struck out seven batters over the first three innings, but was tagged with single runs in the second and third to put the Cards behind after three. Michigan (4-2) then scored three two-out runs in the fourth to open up a 5-1 advantage.
The Cardinals got back in the game in the sixth. Moore and Kade Elam led off with base hits before both scored on a double off the bat of Davis. A couple of strikeouts stalled the comeback effort, however Griffin Crain delivered a two-out single that plated Davis to make it a one-run game.
That was as close as the Cards would get the rest of the way though. Michigan stretched the margin back to four in the seventh on a three-run homer.
Jax Hisle tripled home Kyle Campbell in the eighth, but that would be the last hit of the day for Louisville.
Davis and Moore had two hits apiece in the loss, with the former driving in three of the five runs.
Bean (0-2) was hit with the loss after giving up five runs over 3.2 innings, despite setting a career high with eight strikeouts.
Louisville concludes its weekend in Texas on Sunday, taking on No. 5 Auburn. First pitch is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. ET.
