Closed senior season by winning final six starts and finishing 9-3 with a 3.86 ERA and 95 strikeouts in 93.1 innings. Summer 2014: In six appearances and five starts for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team, Funkhouser was 1-2 with a 1.27 ERA (four earned runs in 28.1 innings) and a team-high 36 strikeouts while allowing just eight walks and 15 hits. Following the team's summer tour, he was chosen as the USA Collegiate National Team's top professional prospect by both Baseball America as well as Jim Callis of MLB.com.

2014: Set school record for single season wins finishing 13-3 overall with a 1.94 ERA and 122 strikeouts (third most at Louisville) in 120.1 innings pitched (second most at Louisville) during an All-American season as the Cardinals' ace. Earned 13th win of the season after striking out 10 in eight shutout innings in NCAA Regional opener against Kent State. Set school record for wins with No. 12 after striking out eight in 6.1 innings against Memphis on May 22 in opening game of American Championship. Matched the school record for single season wins with No. 11 on May 15 against Cincinnati after six quality innings. Improved to 10-2 on the season after striking out career best 12 in eight innings of shutout work against Temple on May 9. Was chosen at American Conference Pitcher of the Week on May 5 after earning ninth win of the season with 7.1 innings of shutout of work, including eight strikeouts, in series-opening victory at USF on May 3. Improved to 8-2 on the season with seven strikeouts in seven shutout innings against UConn on April 25. Earned seventh win of the season, including the sixth consecutive, after striking out eight and allowing two runs on five hits in seven innings at No. 7 Houston on April 11. 2013: Named Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America after going 5-1 with a 2.14 ERA. Had 55 strikeouts in 54.2 innings pitched and 22 total appearances on the mound, including six starts. Struck out three in two innings of perfect relief in Cardinals' win over Pittsburgh on May 17. Won second straight start striking out five while allowing two earned runs on four hits in 5.0+ innings at Ohio State on May 14. Struck out a career-best eight in a four-hit complete game shutout win at Eastern Kentucky on May 7. Did not issue a walk while scattering just four singles to deliver the first complete game shutout for a Louisville player since 2010.
