BETHESDA, Md. - Freshman Bob Revesz combined with Gabriel Shaw and Gavin Logsdon to toss a two-hitter as the University of Louisville baseball team completed a sweep of Georgetown Sunday, winning 9-2. The Cards have now won a season-high seven straight.
Louisville (31-16, 13-8 BIG EAST) struck first when they jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third. Drew Haynes reached on an infield single and moved to second on a throwing error. A wild pitch sent him over to third ahead of an RBI single by John Dao.
Phil Wunderlich then singled to center and Justin McClanahan singled through the left side of the infield for the second run of the inning. Chris Dominguez was hit by a pitch to load the bases and consecutive bases-loaded walks to Jeff Arnold and Andrew Clark made it 4-0 Cards.
With two down in the top of the fourth, Wunderlich was hit by a pitch and McClanahan drilled a two-run shot to center, his eighth home run of the season for a 6-0 advantage.
The Hoyas (16-31, 5-19 BIG EAST) manufactured a run in the bottom of the fourth when Tommy Lee doubled to right center, moved to third on a groundout and was plated on a balk by Revesz.
UofL got the run back, again with two out, when Clark smoked his fourth home run of the season out to right, making it 7-1.
A solo home run by Georgetown's Dan Capeless lead off the bottom of the fifth, cutting the lead to 7-2.
Ijames doubled off the fence in right leading off the seventh, two outs later Tyler Mickits walked and Haynes singled through the right side, driving in a run. An RBI double by Dao gave the Cards a 9-2 edge.
Revesz (1-0) tossed seven sterling innings, allowing two runs on just two hits while striking out a pair to earn his first collegiate win. He retired the side in order in the first, second, third, sixth and seventh innings, twice retiring nine straight. The freshman lefty faced just three over the minimum.
Shaw entered in the eighth and set the side down in order, striking out one. Logsdon worked the ninth, retiring all three he faced, getting a strike out to seal the win. The three pitchers combined to retire the final 15 batters in order after the home run by Capeless in the fifth.
GU starter Jimmy Saris(5-5) took the loss, giving up seven runs on six hits and three walks in 5.0 IP, fanning two.
Dao, Wunderlich, McClanahan and Haynes each had two hits on the afternoon.
The Cardinals will complete the back end of a home and home series with Indiana, travelling to Bloomington Tuesday before hosting Butler Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in Jim Patterson Stadium.
