2010: Was 5-2 with three saves and a 3.88 ERA overall. Finished with 41 strikeouts in 46.1 innings of work. Made 28 total appearances on the mound, including three starts. Pitched 0.2 innings of shutout relief against St. John's on May 29 at BIG EAST Tournament. Allowed four runs on five hits in less than an inning against USF at BIG EAST Tourney. Took the loss and dropped to 4-2 on the season after allowing two runs on three hits in 1.0 inning of relief against St. John's on May 14. 2009: Made 29 appearances out of the Cards' bullpen, which ranks fifth on Louisville's single season list. Finished 3-1 overall with team-leading three saves and a 3.73 ERA. Finished with 47 strikeouts in 50.1 innings. Pitched 2.0 innings of relief in the NCAA Regional, including a scoreless ninth in the Cards' win over Indiana. Earned his third save of the season on May 14 in Cards' 2-1 win over USF. Picked up back-to-back saves, his first two of the season, on May 8-9 at St. John's. Pitched 2.0 scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts on May 8 and came back the next day with a perfect ninth inning against the Red Storm. Finished a busy week with two appearances against Notre Dame in the three-game series. Allowed one run on one hit in 1.0 inning on April 26 and gave up one run on three hits in 3.0 innings on April 24. Had his best outing of the season with 3.0 innings of scoreless and hitless relief against Vandy on April 22. Gave up one run on two hits in his 2.0 innings of relief in the Cards' win at Rutgers on April 19. Earned his first win of the season allowing only one hit and one run with four strikeouts, in a personal best 5.0 innings of relief action on March 7 against Milwaukee. Gave up one earned run on three hits and struck out two in 2.0 innings of relief on March 1 against Bowling Green. Allowed one run on two hits and struck out two in 2.0 innings of work against EKU on Feb. 25. Gave up two runs, both earned, on three hits in 1.1 innings against Florida on Feb. 20. Named to AD Honor Roll and a BIG EAST Academic All-Star.
2008: Took the mound a team-high 27 times, winning four games and saving five. Picked up two of his saves in BIG EAST play. Tossed a 1-2-3 ninth to seal the win over Villanova in the BIG EAST semifinal on May 23. Appeared in both NCAA Regional games. Picked up the win over Ball State on May 13, striking out three in 2.0 innings out of the bullpen. Fanned one in a 1-2-3 inning in win at GU on May 4. Earned the win over UC on April 27 with 2.1 shutout innings. Picked up the win with 4.0 strong innings out of the pen, entering in the first inning at Ohio State on April 16. Did not allow an earned run in 4.1 IP out of the pen against St. John's on April 5, striking out two. Picked up his first career win with 1.2 scoreless innings against Butler on March 26. Pitched a scoreless inning to seal win over UConn on March 21 and earn his fourth save of the season. Picked up his third save of the season, pitching out of a bases-loaded jam against WSU on March 12. Struck out a pair of batters in 2.0 scoreless innings against XU on March 11. Retired the first 21 batters he faced as a collegian. Tossed a 1-2-3 ninth in the win over EKU on March 5. Pitched a perfect ninth, striking out one to earn his second save in the win over NC State on Feb. 29. Earned his way to the BIG EAST Honor Roll in the first week of the season. Was scintillating in college debut, setting down all 12 he faced in order and striking out seven to pick up the save against CSU on Feb. 22.
High School: A two-time All-State selection, posting a 6-3 record with a 1.17 ERA and 62 Ks his senior year after going 12-1 with a 0.44 ERA and 106 strikeouts as a junior. Played in the East Coast Pro Showcase and Area Code Games. He earned five letters in baseball, also hitting 40 doubles, 16 triples and 23 home runs during his career and posting at least a .430 average all four seasons. An All-Region I performer, he was MVP of the 2006 regional tournament, helping the Vikings to a regional and sub-state championship. A four-year letterman in basketball, he scored over 1,000 points in his prep career. He was named 2007 Biokinetics Athlete of the Year.
Personal: Born on May 25, 1988, to Stephen and Laura Shaw in Paducah, Ky. Has one brother, Zachary Shaw, and one sister, Mary-Virginia Willett. Majoring in finance at U of L. Former big leaguer Gene Roof, who along with his brother Phil hails from Paducah, and Gabriel's parents are the biggest influence on his athletic career. Biggest thrill in sports was pitching in the Cards' 2009 NCAA Regional title game win over Vanderbilt. Likes to play basketball, football and baseball in his spare time. For Love of the Game and The Rookie are his favorite movies, and he likes to watch the Dukes of Hazzard and Law and Order on TV as well as ESPN. Chris Carpenter is his favorite athlete and he cheers for the Cardinals. Likes to eat pasta, steak and pizza. Logan's and Fazoli's are his favorite restaurants. Listens to rap and country. He would like to play a round of golf with Nolan Ryan, Don Mattingly and Roger Maris.
