2008: Named Third Team All-American by PING! Baseball after batting a team-high .372 with 26 doubles, 12 home runs, 64 runs and 59 RBI. Drafted in the 33rd round by the Blue Jays. Named to the All-Athens Regional team, batting .444(4 for 9) with a double, two home runs and three RBI. Also a member of the A third team All-BIG EAST selection. Belted a pair of home runs in a 3 for 4 effort, driving in three runs against Ga. Tech(5/30) in the NCAA Regional. Named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament team. He finished the tournament with a .571 average(12 for 21), six runs, four doubles, a triple, two home runs and a tournament record 12 RBI and 24 total bases. Had a career game, setting or tying five BIG EAST Championship records with a 5 for 6 , two home run, seven RBI and 11 total bases in semifinal win over Villanova (5/23). Cracked a pair of doubles and a triple, driving in three and scoring twice in the win over Villanova in the BE Championship (5/21). Belted two more doubles, going 3 for 5 with two RBI in win over Seton Hall(5/20), opening the BIG EAST Championship. Went 3 for 5 with a double, scoring three on senior day against Rutgers(5/17). Was 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored in win over Ball State(5/13). Homered and drove in three in win at GU (5/4). Drove in two and scored twice in win over UC (4/26). 2007: A valuable power source off the bench, McClanahan also started 26 games, smacking six doubles, a triple and five home runs, plating 24 runs in just 104 at bats. Stole three bases without getting caught. Cracked a pinch RBI single in Super Regional win over OSU (6/8). Went 3 for 7, scoring twice in double header sweep of Notre Dame (5/12). Was 4 for 5 with five RBI, belting a three-run home run and a double in win at Indiana (5/9). Smoked a bases-loaded triple in the win at Seton Hall (4/21). Belted his fourth home run of the season, a two-run, opposite field shot in win at WKU(4/17). Exploded in win against Marshall (4/3), going 4 for 4 with two home runs and five RBI, batting in the three-hole for the first time. Started at third and doubled in the tying run in the seventh inning of the win over WVU (4/1), completing the three game sweep. Singled and scored twice in win at Villanova (3/25). Cracked a three-run home run in win at EKU (3/21). Walked, doubled and scored at Evansville (3/14). Drove in a pair of runs in win over Cal (3/10). After sitting out the first nine games with a thumb injury, he stepped into the lineup against ISU (3/3) and delivered a game-tying RBI pinch single, stole second and scored the go ahead run. He later doubled in the Cardinal win.
Northwest-Shoals CC: Hit a school-record 18 home runs last season, ranking him fourth in NJCAA Division I baseball. He batted .410 with 13 doubles, 57 runs, 59 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 52 games last season for the Patriots on his way to All-Conference and All-District honors. He established school career records for home runs (25) and hits (139) at NWSCC, and ranks 2nd all-time in at bats (345), runs (107), doubles (29), and RBI (105). As a freshman he hit .397 with 71 hits, 15 doubles, 7 home runs, and 46 RBI. Dominated the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate Baseball League, earning 2005 MVP honors while hitting a league-leading 11 doubles, four triples and 29 RBI while hitting .360 with 49 hits and 15 SB for the Silver Spring Takoma Thunderbolts. Was All-League, All-Star Game MVP and Home Run Derby runner up in 2006 for Youse's Maryland Orioles, batting .276 with five doubles, three triples, three home runs, 16 RBI and four steals.
High School: A four-year letterwinner for the Riverdale Baptist Crusaders where he was twice named Maryland Player of the Year, leading Riverdale Baptist to four straight Maryland private school state championships during his prep career. Hit .476 with nine home runs and 20 RBI as a senior. Also lettered in football, soccer and track and field in high school. A two-time All-State selection. The baseball team was ranked as high as #12 nationally during his stay.
Personal: Born 8/22/85 in Brandon, Florida. His parents are Michele Keplinger and Wally McClanahan. Is a sociology major at U of L. Is one of four children. Before the Cardinals advanced to the CWS in 2007, helping his JUCO team to the first conference title in school history was his biggest thrill in sports. Hopes to play baseball after college, but would like to be a personal trainer if that doesn't work out. Likes to play basketball, listen to music and play cards in his spare time. Troy, Old School, Talladega Nights, Anchorman and Gladiator are his favorite movies. Watches Baseball Tonight and SportsCenter on TV. Albert Pujols is one of his favorite athletes. Likes to eat pasta and chicken. The Orioles, Bucs and Wizards are his favorite teams. Dream dinner guests would be Michael Jordan, Ray Lewis and Terrell Owens. He once went cliff diving. Won a punt, pass and kick competition when he was six years old. B.J. Upton is the best athlete he has ever faced.
