Cards Grab Season-Opening Win Over Southern Indiana
August 21, 2025 | Men's Soccer
The 6-0 victory was the largest season-opening win since a 10-0 victory over Georgetown College in 1980.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's soccer team set multiple offensive records with a season-opening 6-0 victory over Southern Indiana on Thursday night at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
Â
The victory was Louisville's (1-0-0) largest season-opening win since a 10-0 victory against Georgetown College in 1980. The Cards also set the program record for most assists in a single match with nine, taking down the previous record of eight set in 2011 and matched in 2016. UofL's 36 shots on goal is now the second-most in program history for a single match.
Louisville broke through in the 22nd minute when Michael Lee's corner kick connected with Ryan Quintos, who headed home the Cards' first goal of the season.
Just three minutes later, freshman Nicholas Parham netted his first collegiate goal to double the lead. Off a corner from Bilal Camara and a headed ball from Noah De Blasis, Parham gained control and slotted a shot into the bottom left corner.
The Cardinals struck again in the 34th minute. Parham played the ball to Filip Fredhall, who found Leon Kondic for a finish into the left corner. The goal was the second of Kondic's career, while Fredhall collected his second career assist.
Louisville added two more goals early in the second half. In the 50th minute, Parham recorded his second assist of the night as Fredhall slipped a shot past the keeper. Moments later, Kondic set up Lee, whose strike deflected off the right post before finding the back left corner for Louisville's fifth tally.
The scoring was capped in the 63rd minute when Chase Vazquez converted off the left post, with assists credited to Jack Lewis and TJ Kahoalii.
USI had an early red card that forced them to play a man-down for the majority of the match. The Louisville defense capitalized, as the Screaming Eagles never put a shot on the board.
Â
Louisville will be back in action at the University of Alabama at Birmingham on Monday, Aug. 25, at 8 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.Â
