Louisville will play in the first round of the ACC Tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 5
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's soccer team finished their season with a scoreless tie against Pittsburgh, in what was their seventh shutout of the season.
Both teams came into the game at 5-6-4, looking to finish with a .500 record and a second win in ACC play, but great defense from both teams foiled those aspirations.
Pittsburgh looked to strike early with a shot in the first minute, but goalkeeper Alex Svetanoff saved it. Svetanoff would go on to finish the night with four saves. Pittsburgh tallied six shots in first half, two of which were on goal.
For the Cardinals, Filip Fredhall took the lone shot of the first half at the 11th minute but was saved by the Panther's goalkeeper.
In the second half, possession was primarily controlled by Pitt, but the Cardinals defense stood tall. The Panthers attempted an additional eight shots in the second half, two of which were on goal, but still failed to score.
Louisville looked to respond late in the game with four of their seven total shots coming in the last 15 minutes. This included another shot from Fredhall at the 79th minute, who finished the game with three shots, and two from Bilal Camara at the 85th and 87th minutes.
Despite this late push, Louisville could not get on the board, resulting in a scoreless tie. Louisville finished the regular season 5-6-5 with a 1-5-2 ACC record.
The Cardinals will begin the postseason on Wednesday, November 5th in the first round of the ACC Tournament. The match will stream on ACC Network Extra; time and location are to be determined.
