LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 22 ranked University of Louisville Men's soccer team (3-0-1) hosts the Wright State Raiders (1-2-1) at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium on Thursday, September 3. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. on ACCNX and the ESPN App.
The Cards remain unbeaten on the year, with wins over IU Indy, Kentucky, and Lipscomb. Most recently, they scraped out a 1-1 tie with No. 14 Indiana on Aug. 31. Louisville (3-0-1) comes in averaging a staggering 16 shots per game and holds a 64-37 shots advantage over their four opponents so far this season. The Cardinals also hold a 29-18 advantage in corners taken.
With that unbeaten start comes new rankings, as Louisville found themselves ranked for the first time this season, coming in at No. 22 in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
Junior midfielder Giacomo Zizza has garnered national spotlight in recent days, being named ACC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 1. He leads the Cardinals with four goals and nine points.
On top of Zizza's blazing start, Johnny Petruso, Braydon Sellers, and Andrés Escudero have all recorded goals. Noah De Blasis and Ryan Quintos have both contributed assists to Louisville's efforts along side Zizza.
Head coach John Michael Hayden is in his eighth season at the helm for the Cardinals and is in his 12th season overall with Louisville. In eight seasons, he boasts a 60-49-20 record, with four NCAA Tournament berths.
Series History
Thursday's match brings up history for the Cards, as they have yet to claim a win over the Raiders. In total, Wright State has a 13-0-3 record against Louisville, with five of those wins coming at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. It will be the first time the two have met since Oct. 10, 2001, where Louisville fell 3-2 at Alumni Field in Dayton.
The Raiders come into this match with a 1-2-1 record, most recently tying Lindenwood on Aug. 30. Their lone win came against Eastern Illinois on Aug. 27.
