No. 16 Cardinals Drop First Match of Season at No. 20 Pitt

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The No. 16 University of Louisville men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Friday night, falling 1-0 to No. 20 Pittsburgh at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
The Cardinals dropped to 7-1-2 overall and 1-1-1 in ACC play, while Pitt improved to 6-2-1 overall and 2-1-0 in conference action.
Pitt scored the lone goal of the match in the 39th minute when Mamadou Tall finished off assists from Anders Bordoy and Pablo Portero to give the Panthers a 1-0 advantage.
Louisville battled throughout the second half in search of an equalizer, putting five shots on goal after halftime. Mamadou Oumar Ndiaye recorded two shots on target, while Ashton Flowers and Giacomo Zizza each forced saves from Pitt goalkeeper Jack Moxom. Emil Thor also had a shot blocked.
Nathaniel Abraham kept the Cardinals within one throughout the night, recording a career-high five saves. Three of Abraham's five stops came in the second half as Louisville continued to push for the equalizer.
The Cardinals finished with seven shots, including four on target, while Pitt recorded 11 shots with six on frame. Louisville also held a 5-4 edge in second-half shots.
Louisville returns to action next week, hosting NC State on Friday, Oct. 2 at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. on ACCNX.
