LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 17 University of Louisville men's soccer team rallied for a 2-1 victory over NC State on Friday night at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium, scoring two unanswered to earn its eighth win of the season.
The Cardinals (8-1-2, 2-1-1 ACC) overcame an early deficit and received goals from Jacopo Surricchio and Cooper Olson to secure the comeback victory.
NC State struck first in the 23rd minute when Russell Berko scored to give the Wolfpack a 1-0 advantage.
Louisville answered just under seven minutes later. Mamadou Oumar Ndiaye and Giacomo Zizza combined to set up Surricchio, who found the back of the net in the 30th minute for his first goal of the season and evened the match at 1-1.
The Cardinals and Wolfpack remained deadlocked through the majority of the second half before Louisville found the decisive goal in the 86th minute.
Zizza created the opportunity, firing a shot that was saved before Olson followed up moments later to put the Cardinals ahead 2-1. The goal marked Olson's second of the season, while Zizza recorded his second assist of the night.
Louisville's defense held from there, with goalkeeper Nathaniel Abraham making two saves in the victory. Abraham earned his eighth victory of the season.
NC State finished with a 15-6 advantage in shots, but Louisville put four of its six attempts on target. The Cardinals also earned three corner kicks to the Wolfpack's four.
Louisville returns to action next week, hosting DePaul on Tuesday, October 6. The match will kick off at 6 p.m. ET on ACCNX.
