Escudero's Brace Leads No. 15 Louisville to 3-0 Victory Over Belmont

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Andrés Escudero Martín scored twice in a span of less than three minutes in the second half and Cooper Olson added his first goal of the season as the No. 15 University of Louisville men's soccer team posted a 3-0 victory over Belmont on Monday night at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
The Cardinals improved to 7-0-2 on the season with their third shutout and remained unbeaten through nine matches. Louisville controlled the match throughout, finishing with a 21-2 advantage in shots and a 12-1 edge in corner kicks.
Louisville applied pressure early, generating eight shots and five corner kicks in the opening half. Jacopo Surricchio, Mamadou Oumar Ndiaye and Ryan Quintos each put shots on target, but Belmont goalkeeper Brody Sucher made four saves to keep the match scoreless at halftime.
The Cardinals continued to control possession and create chances after the break. Belmont was reduced to 10 players when John McDowell received a red card 31 seconds into the second half.
Louisville finally broke through in the 76th minute. Cooper Olson and Mamadou Oumar Ndiaye combined to find Escudero, who finished for his fifth goal of the season to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.
Just 2:26 later, Escudero struck again. Johnny Petruso and Giacomo Zizza combined to set up the sophomore forward, who buried his second goal of the night to extend the Louisville advantage to 2-0.
Olson added an insurance goal in the 87th minute, collecting a pass from Zizza and finding the back of the net for the first goal of his Louisville career. Zizza finished with a pair of assists on the night.
The Cardinals finished with nine shots on target, while Nathaniel Abraham made two saves to record his seventh victory and third shutout of the season.
Escudero Martín now has six goals on the season, including four in his last three matches. His two-goal performance marked his first multi-goal game of the season.
Louisville will return to ACC action Friday, Sept. 25, traveling to Pittsburgh for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff on ACCNX.
