The Cardinals face the nationally ranked Wolfpack in the first-ever ACC Tournament meeting between the teams.
RALEIGH, N.C. — The No. 14 seed University of Louisville men's soccer team begins its postseason journey Wednesday evening, traveling to face No. 3 seed NC State in the first round of the ACC Championship. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. ET at Dail Soccer Stadium and will be televised on ACCNX.
The Cardinals (5-6-5, 1-5-2 ACC) enter their 11th ACC Championship appearance with a 9-7-2 all-time record in the tournament, including a 5-4-0 mark on the road. Louisville looks to build on a defensive foundation that has produced seven shutouts and limited opponents to just 15 goals through 16 matches.
Redshirt junior goalkeeper Alex Svetanoff has anchored the back line, ranking among the ACC's top five in shutouts (7), saves (51), and save percentage (.773). Offensively, Chase Vazquez, Michael Lee, and freshman Quinton Wilson pace the team with three goals apiece, while Noah De Blasis leads the Cardinals with three assists.
Louisville holds a 6-5-2 advantage in the all-time series against NC State, including wins in four of the last five meetings before a narrow 1-0 setback in Raleigh last season. This matchup marks the programs' first-ever meeting in the ACC Championship.
NC State (11-1-4, 4-1-3 ACC) enters Wednesday's contest ranked No. 4 nationally by the United Soccer Coaches Poll. The Wolfpack boast one of the nation's most potent attacks, led by Donovan Phillip (15 goals) and Taig Healy (8 assists).
Head coach John Michael Hayden, in his seventh season at the helm, owns a 4-2-0 record against NC State and has guided the Cardinals to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the third round in 2019.
