Cardinals Begin Season at Auburn

Each of the first two games of the season will be on the road for the Cards
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville women's soccer team is out on the road to begin the 2025 season. The Cardinals are down in the plains as they are set to take on Auburn Thursday night for the 2025 season opener. The Cardinals and Tigers are set to face off at 7:30 p.m. ET and it will be broadcast on the SEC Network+.
The Cardinals return several players that played big roles on the 2024 squad that finished the season 7-6-5. Louisville returns 10 of their 11 starters that played in the final game of the 2024 season. Nine players return that started 10 or more games last season, including five players that started all 18 games in 2024. The Cardinals bring back 12 players that started at least one game last season.
In terms of offensive production, the Cardinals return 16 of their 25 goals from last season, including their top-two goal scorers. Mackenzie Geigle scored a career best seven goals and tallied 17 points, both were the team-best marks last season. Defender Karsyn Cherry scored a career-best six goals, five coming off of set pieces, and was the second-highest goal total from last year.
On the defensive end, the Cardinals started the same back line in each of the last 10 games last season. Over the final five games of the season, the Cardinals defense allowed only two goals and had clean sheets against No. 13 Notre Dame and on the road against Clemson.
In net, Louisville returns both of their goalkeepers from the 2024 season. Erynn Floyd battled injuries last season but still appeared in 14 games and put up some of the best numbers of her career. She allowed just eight goals in those 14 games and had a 0.70 goals against average. Floyd tallied 35 saves and .814 save percentage. She had a career best 10 saves against Notre Dame and was named ACC Defender of the Week.
The Cardinals bring in a freshman class of 10 and one collegiate transfer to the 2025 squad. Liza Suydam joins the Cardinals after playing her first two seasons at Monmouth. She is coming off a season where she scored nine goals and tallied four assists. In her two year career, she has totaled 16 goals, seven assists and 39 points.
Ahead of the season, Cherry and senior Lizzie Sexton were named captains for the 2025 campaign. Cherry had played in 50 games and made 49 starts in her Louisville career. She has totaled nine goals, one assist and 19 points with three of her goals being game-winners. Sexton has played 48 games and made 42 starts over her Louisville career. She started in all 18 games last year and recorded her first career assist in the 2024 opener against Bellarmine.
Following the season opener, the Cardinals will remain on the road to face another SEC opponent. The Cardinals close the road trip in the Music City as they square off with No. 17 Vanderbilt on Sunday, August 17.
