Louisville was unable to overcome an early deficit
DURHAM, N.C. — The 21st-ranked and No. 6 seed Louisville women's soccer team (13-4-3) dropped its ACC Quarterfinal match to 10th-ranked and No. 3 seed Duke (13-3-1) 1-0 on Sunday night at Koskinen Stadium. In a night of tough weather conditions, Duke got the game's only goal early and the Cards were unable to get an equalizer.
Duke got the first real chance of the game in the ninth minute with a shot on frame but it was smothered and saved by Erynn Floyd. Moments later, Duke got on the scoreboard with the first goal of the match in the 12th minute.
The Cards almost found the equalizer a few minutes after Duke took the lead. Emerson Jennings went racing up the right side and fired a shot on goal that deflected off the top crossbar and away from danger.
The Cardinals had another chance in the 35th minute. Taylor Morris intercepted a Duke pass and made a play into the box. Her shot made it on frame but it was saved by the Blue Devils' keeper. Fina Davy got in behind the Duke defense into the box in the 44th minute but her shot was wide of the net.
Duke took the 1-0 lead into the half but the Cardinals continued the offensive pressure in the second half.
Another great opportunity in the 65th minute for the Cardinals. A deflected throw- in made its way out to Kiley Peat, who settled the ball and immediately put a shot on goal. The Duke keeper was on the spot and able to deflect the chance away.
The Cardinals outshot the Blue Devils 10-2 in the second half but the Blue Devils stopped both shots on goal and came away with the win to advance to the semifinals.
The Cardinals will now turn their attention to the upcoming selection show for the 2025 NCAA Tournament. The field of 64 teams will be announced on Monday, November 10 at 4pm on NCAA.com. The Cardinals are looking for their first NCAA Tournament berth since the 2019 season.
