No. 6 Cardinals Host Kentucky in NCAA First Round

This is the seventh all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the Cardinals
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The No. 6 seed and 20th-ranked Louisville women's soccer team (13-4-3, 6-2-2 ACC) is set to host the first round of the NCAA Tournament this weekend at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. The Cardinals welcome the Kentucky Wildcats (12-4-4, 5-2-3 SEC) on Saturday, November 15. The Cardinals and Wildcats are set to square off at 2 p.m. ET and will be streamed on ESPN+.
This is the seventh all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the Cardinals and all have come under the direction of head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes. The last appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the Cards came in 2019, when they advanced to the second round. Louisville has a 3-6 all-time record in the NCAA Tournament and the furthest they have advanced is the second round, three separate times.
Louisville has been dominant at home this season. The Cardinals are unbeaten at Lynn Stadium with a 10-0-1 overall record at home. In those games at home, the Cardinals are outscoring opponents 44-3. The Cardinals have collected clean sheets in nine of the 11 home games and had a seven-game shutout streak over the middle of the season.
Kentucky enters Saturday's match with a 12-4-4 overall record and were 5-2-3 in SEC play. The Wildcats earned the No. 6 seed in the SEC Soccer Tournament and advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to No. 3 seed Georgia in penalty kicks. Kentucky has two common opponents of the Cardinals this season in Detroit Mercy and Vanderbilt. Kentucky beat Detroit 2-0 on Aug. 24 and fell to No. 24 Vanderbilt on Oct. 5.
This will be the 23rd meeting between the in-state rivals and the Cardinals trail the all-time series 7-14-1. It is the first meeting since 2018 and the Cardinals have won the past two meetings between the two schools.
