
Louisville Drops Season Opener to Nebraska

Liza Suydam picked up her first goal of the season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Louisville women's soccer team (0-1-0) dropped its season opener by a score of 3-1 to Nebraska Wednesday night at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
Nebraska (1-0-0) struck early with a goal in the third minute of the contest. Forward Nathalie Lewis got loose on a breakaway and scored the Cornhuskers opening goal of the match.
In the 26th minute, Nebraska was awarded a penalty after the Cards committed a foul in the box. Ella Rudney converted from the spot to give the Cornhuskers a 2-0 advantage they would carry into the half.
The first 22 minutes of the second half were quiet until Ava Makovicka connected on a shot from outside the box for Nebraska's third goal of the game.
Senior Liza Suydam put Louisville on the board in the 89th minute when she was able to capitalize from a ball deflected off the goalie, cutting the Cards' deficit to 3-1. With the clock winding down, Louisville was not able to rally and fell to Nebraska in its season opener.
Louisville will be looking to bounce back with a game against IU Indy on Sunday, August 16 at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. The game is set to kick off at 7 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
