Louisville extends winning streak to seven games in a row with the win

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's soccer team continued its offensive streak by taking down Pittsburgh by a score of 4-2 in its Atlantic Coast Conference opener on Saturday night at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.

Louisville's (7-1-0) seven-match win streak marks its longest since 2019 when the Cardinals also won seven straight matches.

"I'm really happy for our players," said head coach Hunter Norton. "They gave a huge effort tonight and I thought we were able to go to another level in the second half. We knew Pitt would be a tough, well-coached team. To be able to get our first ACC win against a good opponent feels great. I'm super proud of our players! Now we get to turn our attention to Stanford on Thursday."

Karina Peat and Amelia Swinarski both picked up their team-leading fifth goal of the season in the victory.

The Cards were the first to strike when Liza Suydam scored a goal in the 10th minute off a pass from Ka. Peat, who earned her conference-leading seventh assist.

Ten minutes later, Pitt (6-2-1) tied up the contest at 1-1, a score that would hold until halftime.

In the second half, the Cards picked up their momentum with a quick goal in the 50^th minute from Ka. Peat who scored off a long-range assist from Grace Maddox.

A shot by AG Gibson that rebounded off the post gave Swinarski a chance, and she landed a shot in the back of the net, extending Louisville's lead to 3-1.

The Panthers got the benefit of an own goal after a cross deflected off the leg of a Louisville defender into the goalpost to cut their deficit in half.

Liz Eddy earned the Cards some insurance with a goal in the final three minutes of the contest off a pass from Brooklyn Lee. Pitt could not pull off a late rally, giving Louisville a 4-2 victory in the opening weekend of ACC play.

Up next, Louisville will head across the country to take on No. 1 Stanford for a Thursday matchup set to kick off at 10 p.m. ET. The match will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
