Louisville ties its longest winning streak in program history with eight straight matches
STANFORD, Calif. – The University of Louisville women's soccer team earned its first ranked victory of the season after defeating No. 6 Stanford by a score of 1-0 on Thursday, September 17 at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium.
With the victory, Louisville extended its win streak to eight games, matching the longest winning streak in program history, previously set in 2011, and is the first time the Cardinals have reached that mark during the regular season.Louisville's defense brought high intensity and pressure to begin the contest. The high press resulted in a goal in the fourth minute by sophomore forward Karina Peat, her team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Kicking off the second half, the Cardinals kept the pressure and were able to hold Stanford off the scoresheet. With 20 seconds remaining in the matchup, Stanford fired a shot on goal from inside the box, but Brielle Baker made the save to secure the 1-0 victory for the Cards.
Baker tallied a career-high five saves on the night in her first 90-minute clean sheet of the season.Louisville will remain on the West Coast to play California on Sunday, September 20. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ACCNX.
