Late Goal Pushes Cards Past Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The University of Louisville women's soccer team remains undefeated in Atlantic Coast Conference play after a 2-1 road victory against Virginia Tech on Saturday night.
The win extends Louisville's (9-1-2, 3-0-2 ACC) program-best unbeaten streak to 11 consecutive matches, nine of which were wins.The first 45 minutes of the contest were a stalemate between the two squads. The Cards had a 7-4 edge in shots in the period but were unable to capitalize on the chances.
Freshman McKalie Ball broke the deadlock in the 67th minute on a header off a pass from Liz Eddy outside of the box.
Virginia Tech (6-3-3, 2-2-0 ACC) scored the equalizer in the 82nd minute on a goal that was originally called offsides but was later overturned by an official review.
The Cardinals pulled off a late-game winner when Karina Peat found the back of the net in the 89th minute off an assist from Eddy.
Eddy's two assists tie her career-high in a single game and is the first time she has done so in a Louisville uniform.
Up next, Louisville will remain on the road with a contest against No. 23 Clemson on Saturday, October 10. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
