Hadley Snyder scored her first career goal in the road win
AUBURN, Ala. — The Louisville women's soccer team opened the season with a bang as they took down Auburn, 1-0, Thursday night at Auburn Soccer Complex. Hadley Snyder tallied her first career goal which became the game winner in the 72nd minute to break the deadlock. The Cardinals picked up their first road win over an SEC squad since 2017 with the season-opening victory.
Erynn Floyd picked up the clean sheet after making five saves on the night. Dating back to last season, Floyd and the Cardinals have held opponents scoreless in three-straight matches. It was the first time in 12 matches that Auburn was shut out at home, dating back to August 10 of last season.
Floyd was on point early on in the first half. She made her first save in the sixth minute and then had back-to-back saves coming off a corner kick in the 22nd minute to keep the game level.
The Cardinals best chance in the first half came in the 28th minute when Amelia Swinarski took possession heading into the box. She created room from her defender and got a shot off on net but it was saved by the Auburn keeper.
Neither team found the scoresheet in the first half and it was 0-0 after the opening 45 minutes. Floyd tallied four saves in the first half while the Cards had three total shots.
The score remained level until the 73rd minute when the Cardinals capitalized on a corner kick.
Betsy Huckaby sent the corner into the box and it was punched out by the Tigers' keeper. Snyder was the first one to the loose ball and she sent a low volley inside the right post for the goal. It was just the second shot of the half for the Cardinals and it put them up 1-0.
After the Cardinals took the lead, they stayed locked in defensively to keep the Tigers off the scoreboard. In the 88th minute, Auburn made their final push into the attacking third. Floyd punched the initial threat out of the box and then made a save moments later to keep the Cards in front and clinch the win.
Following the win, the Cardinals will continue their season-opening road trip and another SEC opponent awaits them. The Cardinals will head to the Music City to take on No. 17 Vanderbilt Sunday night. The Cardinals and Commodores will square off at 7 p.m. ET and the match will be streamed on SEC Network+.
