It is the first of a potential six ranked matchups of the season
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Coming off their 1-0 road win over Auburn to open the season, the Louisville women's soccer team continues its road trip this weekend with another SEC foe. The Cardinals are in the Music City to take on the No. 17-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores. The Cardinals and Commodores are set to square off at 7 p.m. ET and it will be steamed on SEC Network+.
The Louisville defense was on point in the season-opening win over Auburn. Starting the same back line that started each of the last 10 games last season, they limited Auburn's chances in the offensive third. Erynn Floyd made four saves in the first half to keep the score level until the Cardinals capitalized in the 73rd minute.
Betsy Huckaby's corner got punched out by the Auburn keeper but Hadley Snyder was the first to the loose ball. She fired off a low, driven shot that tucked inside the right post for the eventual game-winning goal. It was Snyder's first career goal that earned the Cardinals the season-opening win.
It was Louisville's first win over an SEC opponent on the road since they defeated Kentucky back in the 2017 season. It was also the first time Auburn had been shutout at home in a span of 12 matches, dating back to last season. Floyd earned the clean sheet against the Tigers, her third-straight clean sheet dating back to last season.
The Commodores are coming off a 7-0 home win over Austin Peay in their opener. It will be the 11th meeting all-time between the Commodores and Cardinals but the first since the 2019 season. Vanderbilt leads the all-time series 6-2-2 but the Cardinals won the last matchup. Louisville defeated No. 9 Vanderbilt on Sept. 15, 2019, at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. This will be the first time the Cardinals travel to Nashville since the 1998 season.
Following the Sunday match with the Commodores, the Cardinals will return to campus to kick start a six-game homestand. The homestand begins with a doubleheader with the men's team on Thursday, August 21st. The Cardinals are the second game as they take on Detroit Mercy at 7:30 p.m. after the men's team takes on Southern Indiana at 5 p.m.
