Cardinals Fall in the Second Round to Kansas, 3-1

Louisville finished the season with school records in a number of categories
DURHAM, N.C. — The No. 6 Louisville women's soccer team's (13-5-3) season came to a close after a 3-1 defeat to No. 3 Kansas (16-5-3) Thursday night at Koskinen Stadium. The Cardinals scored the first goal of the game thanks to Grace Maddox but Kansas tied it before half. Kansas scored two goals in the final 10 minutes of the second half to claim the win and end the Cardinals season.
Kansas held most of the early possession but the Cardinals defense kept them from turning it into dangerous opportunities.
Louisville got its first corner kick in the 19th minute and they took full advantage. Amelia Swinarski sent an in-swinging ball that was deflected away by the Blue Devils keeper. Karsyn Cherry got to the loose ball and her header deflected off the top crossbar but came back in play. Maddox was first to the ball and volleyed it into the back of the net to give the Cards an early 1-0 lead.
The Cards looked to take a lead into the half but Kansas got on the scoreboard in the final minutes of the first half. Faith Johnston scored for the Jayhawks and the score would remain 1-1 heading into the half.
Kansas was on the front foot in the second half with a major advantage in shots and corner kicks. Heading into the final 10 minutes of play, Kansas held a 10-0 edge in shots and 6-0 in corners.
The Jayhawks got the go-ahead goal from Julian Gregorski, who scored on a rebound after a save from Erynn Floyd. It put the Jayhawks up 2-1 with just under eight minutes remaining in regulation.
Kansas put the game out of reach with a goal in the 86th minute as it closed out the 3-1 victory for the Jayhawks.

The Cardinals advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019 and made it to the second round for the third time in program history. Louisville set school records for goals (53), assists (60) and points (166).
