Cardinals Put Two on the Podium on Day 3 at NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS -- After three days of racing, the University of Louisville is in 13th place at the 2024 NCAA Men's Swimming Championships at the Indiana Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI.

The Cardinals had two swimmers in the A-finals and the relay in contention for points on Friday evening. Â

In the 200 breaststroke, Louisville's Denis Petrashov finished third in the A-final, posting a 50.91. Liam Bell of Cal set a NCAA, Meet, American, U.S. Open, and Pool record with a 49.53.

In the finals of the 200 freestyle, Murilo Sartori turned in a time of 1:32.12 to finish eighth in the nation, equaling his finish from a year ago. The event was won by Luke Hobson of Texas, who set an NCAA, Meet, American, U.S. Open, and Pool record of 1:28.81.

In the 400 Free Relay, the Cardinals dropped .57 off their qualifying time and went 3:03.26 to finish fifth in their heat. Charlie Crush led off the backstroke leg with a split of 46.29. Denis Petrashov was next in the water with a 50.64 breaststroke leg. Dalton Lowe had a 44.65 butterfly leg and put the Cards in fourth place in the handoff. Guy Brooks anchored in 41.68 to place the Cardinals in 11th. Arizona State won the event with a 2:57.32 to set an NCAA, Meet, and Pool Record.

After 14 events, Arizona State (343) is atop the leaderboard followed by California (286.5), Florida (273), Indiana (247), NC SÂ tate (206), Texas (165), Tennessee (147), Stanford (144), Virginia Tech (116), Georgia (88), Notre Dame (79), Auburn (72), Louisville (69), Michigan (68.5) and Ohio State (65) to round out the top 15.

The University of Louisville has nine swimmers and three relay alternates in the field. Tommy Bried, Guy Brooks, Denis Loktev, Dalton Lowe, Jackson Millard, Denis Petrashov, Gustavo Saldo, Murilo Sartori and Ilia Sibirtsev have qualified in individual events.  Matias Santiso, Charlie Crush and Vladimir Dubinin will serve as relay alternates. The Cardinals also qualified all five relay events.
