LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's soccer team hits the road to take on NC State on Sunday. Kickoff from Raleigh, N.C., is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET and will be televised on ACC Network Extra.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Louisville picked up a 4-0 victory over Milwaukee on Tuesday night in its final non-conference match of the regular season. Bilal Camara, Gage Guerra, Mason Tatafu and Parker Forbes each scored, while AJ Piela recorded his first career clean sheet.
The Cardinals tied a season high with four goals in Tuesday's victory in addition to notching their first shutout since blanking Kentucky on Sept. 9.
SERIES HISTORY
Louisville is 6-4-2 all-time against NC State, including four consecutive victories. The Cardinals are 3-2-1 against the Wolfpack in Raleigh, winning their last two matches at NC State.
UofL turned in a 5-2 victory against NC State last season in Louisville. Josh Jones and Sander Roed each scored as part of a dominant opening half that saw the Cards leading 4-0 at halftime.
NOTING THE CARDINALS
GUERRA ON RECORD-SETTING SCORING BINGE
Senior forward Gage Guerra entered the season as one of the best goal-scorers in the country and then got off to a hot start with tallies in each of the first two matches. However, he then went the next six matches without finding the back of the net.
Guerra put an end to his scoring drought on Sept. 29 at Boston College and has been rolling ever since. The Houston native then scored twice at Cal before missing the Lipscomb match, and then converted penalty kicks versus Clemson and Evansville. He added another goal against Milwaukee and became the first Louisville player to score in five straight matches since at least 2001.
Guerra is now up to 30 career goals, tied for the 10th-most in Division I among active players.
LEWIS LEADING THE CARDINALS FROM THE MIDFIELD
On a roster that features 11 juniors, seniors and graduate students, it's a true freshman that leads the Cardinals in time on the pitch.
Freshman midfielder Jack Lewis leads Louisville this season with 1,106 minutes played and is one of just five players to appear in all 14 matches and one of three to start at least 13 of those.
In his first season with the Cardinals, Lewis has teamed up with JP Jordan centrally in the midfield and contributed a goal, three assists and five points total. His goal was a game-winner against Bellarmine, while he also assisted on a late winner at Kentucky.
