Cardinals Finish Fourth at the NCAA Championships

Louisville wins second Top 4 Trophy with most points in school history
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of Louisville women finished fourth, scoring the most points in school history at the 2023 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.
The Cardinals made five podiums with five first team All-American performances along with two honorable mention All-American awards as well.
Virginia (541.5) wrapped up the national championship followed by Texas (414.5), Stanford (333) and Louisville (288) to earn the top four trophy slots.
In the 1650, Liberty Williams scored in the timed final with a ninth place finish with a 15:55.20, dropping 8.31 seconds from her entry time. Paige Kuwata touched in 16:31.94 in her heat. The event was won by Alabama's Kensey McMahon, who went 15:43.84 to sweep both distance events at the meet.
In the 200 backstroke, Paige Hetrick touched second in the consolation final with a time of 1:51.90. The event was won by Stanford's Claire Curzan, who turned in a 1:47.64.
Gabi Albiero and Christiana Regenauer both earned All-American honors in the 100 freestyle. Albiero touched fourth in the championship heat with a time of 46.80, dropping .08 off her preliminary time, the second fastest time in school history and a personal best. Regenauer was seventh with a time of 47.50. Virginia's Gretchen Walsh dropped 1.05 second off her prelim time to post a 45.61 for the win.
Abby Hay earned All-American honors with a time of 1:53.90, finishing eighth in the finals of the 200 butterfly. Emma Sticklen of Texas had the fastest time of night with a 1:49.95.
Diver Else Praasterink finished eighth on the platform with a score of 270.70. Delaney Schnell of Arizona took top honors with a score of 352.65.
In the 400 Free Relay Gabi Albiero (47.38), Christiana Regenauer (47.24), Julia Dennis (47.49) and Ella Welch 47.46) combined for a time of 3:09.57 and third place finish.
The men's 2024 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships blasts off the blocks next Wednesday in Minneapolis.
