
Swimming and Diving to Host Rival Kentucky at 4 p.m.

The University of Louisville No. 10 men's and No. 10 women's swimming and diving teams will return to the competition pool this weekend as they host the annual Battle of the Bluegrass against in state rival, Kentucky on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Ralph Wright Natatorium. Â The meet start time has been moved from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. due to inclimate weather predicted for the region.
In their last time out, the Cardinals took down ACC foe Florida State. After holding slim leads after the first day of competition, the Cardinals won 17 of the 20 events on the second day to cruise to the victory. The men posted a 203-150 victory while the women surged to a 238-115 win.
Grigory Tarasevich earned Male Swimmer of the Week honors after posting two individual wins and was part of two first-place and two second-place relay teams in the victory over Florida State. Tarasevich swept both backstroke events by earning NCAA B-cut times. Trevor Carroll added three victories while Nolan Tesone added a pair of victories for the men.
For the women, freshman Mallory Comerford picked up three victories while senior Kelsi Worrell picked up a pair of victories. Comerford led the field in the 50 free, 200 free, and the 500 free. Worrell won the 100 free and in her signature event, the 100 fly. Freshman Rachel Bradford-Feldman also picked up two victories, sweeping both IM events.
The Kentucky men's and women's swimming and diving teams come into the weekend rested after last competing in SEC action two weekends ago. The men picked up their first SEC dual victory since 2009 as they squeaked by LSU, 198-188, after falling to Virginia Tech 209-180. The women dropped both meets as they fell 203.5-185.5 to Virginia Tech and 237.5-151.5 to No. 24 LSU.Â
Freshman diver Seb Masterton landed SEC Male Diver of the Week after winning two diving events by taking the platform event with a career-best 337.80 points and the 3 meter springboard event with a score of 373.80 against LSU and Virginia Tech. Junior Andrew Aviotti led the field in the grueling 1650 freestyle by touching the wall first in 15:23.28, which was a NCAA B-cut time. Junior Kyle Higgins led the field in the 200 fly with a NCAA B-cut time of 1:47.12.
Junior Danielle Galyer swept both backstroke events with NCAA B-cut times. Freshman Kathryn Painter won the 400 IM while Junior Kendal Casey took first in the 500 free. Redshirt junior Rebecca Hamperian led the field in the 1m springboard event by tallying 299.70 points

The Cardinals continue competition next weekend as they will face Indiana next Friday at 5 p.m. in Ralph Wright Natatorium.
