Louisville Baseball 2011 Summer League Assignments

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville baseball team has already started its preparation for the 2012 season with 18 returning underclassman scheduled to play summer baseball in wooden bat leagues around the nation.
The Cardinals have five players assigned to the prestigious Cape Cod League, including First Team All-BIG EAST selection and sophomore right-handed pitcher Justin Amlung, who will be playing for the Wareham Gatemen. Joining Amlung on the Wareham roster will be sophomore righty Andy Flett, while freshman right-hander Chad Green will be playing for the Bourne Braves. Sophomore righty Matt Koch and freshman right-hander Dace Kime will spend the summer playing for the Chatham Anglers.
Louisville has four players assigned to the New England League with freshman pitcher/outfielder Cody Ege and freshman infielder Ty Young set to play for the Vermont Mountaineers, while freshman infielder Alex Chittenden and freshman righty Jeff Thompson will compete for the Keene Swamp Bats. Three Cardinals are playing in the Coastal Plain League with freshman outfielder Adam Engel on the Florence RedWolves roster and junior right-hander pitcher Travis Tingle and freshman pitcher/outfielder Cole Sturgeon playing for the Thomasville HiToms.
The U of L trio of sophomore righty Curtis McCombs, freshman right-hander Brandon Alphin and freshman catcher Jeff Gardner are competing for the Baltimore Redbirds of the Cal Ripken League this summer. Cardinals' sophomore first baseman Zak Wasserman will play for the Mankato MoonDogs of the Northwoods League, freshman catcher Kyle Gibson will play for the Lexington Hustlers of the Great Lakes League and freshman infielder/outfielder Ryan Seiz will play for the Oneonta Outlaws of the New York League.
Following the completion of the collegiate summer leagues, players will return to campus for the fall semester in mid-August to continue the Cardinals' preparation for the 2012 college baseball season.
