
Dominguez Makes History in the Cape Cod League

HYANNIS, Mass. - University of Louisville All-American third baseman Chris Dominguez joined former AL MVP Frank Thomas as the only two players in Cape Cod League history to hit three home runs in a single game with a wood bat, leading the Hyannis Mets to a 6-4 win over Falmouth Wednesday night.
Dominguez, the BIG EAST Co-Player of the Year and BIG EAST Tournament MVP, batted cleanup for the Mets and was 3 for 5 with five RBI and three runs scored.
Drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 5th round of the 2008 MLB Draft, Dominguez wasted no time, drilling a two-run shot to straightaway center field with two out in the first for a 2-0 lead.
Leading off the sixth, Dominguez smoked a lined shot over the fence in left center.
His final blast came in the eight with nobody out and one on, pulling his league-leading sixth home run of the season out to left, eliciting a standing ovation from the fans at McKeon Park.
He is tied for 5th in the league with 17 RBI and leads the Cape in extra base hits with 12.
Dominguez has six two-home run games in two seasons with the Cardinals.
Dominguez is one of 12 Cardinals currently playing summer ball, joined in the Cape by pitchers Justin Marks (Chatham) and Bob Revesz(Bourne).
Outfielder Alec Lowrey is batting .295 with five doubles and three home runs, driving in 16 in 25 games for Florence of the Coastal Plain League. Joining Lowrey in the CPL is catcher Jeff Arnold, who has five doubles, two home runs and 15 RBI to go with a .255 average in 26 starts.
Gabriel Shaw is 2-0 with a 2.90 ERA, striking out 22 in 31.0 IP for the Madison Mallards of the North Woods League.
Gavin Logsdon is 1-0 in a team-high 12 outings, posting a 1.27 ERA for the Anchorage Bucs in the Alaska Baseball League.
Drew Haynes and Jon Clarence are teammates on the Danville Dans in the Central Illinois Collegiate League. Haynes is batting .268 with four doubles, 15 runs and is 9-11 on steals. Clarence has fanned 23 in 19.2 innings, appearing in eight games. Phil Wunderlich is also playing the CICL, hitting .330 with eight doubles and a team-best 16 RBI for the DuPage County Dragons.
Nate Holland is playing for the Saratoga Phillies in the New York Collegiate Baseball League. He is batting .255 in 15 games.
There are 40 summer wood bat leagues that NCAA athletes compete for during the off-season. They do not effect eligibility at the collegiate level.
