
Cards Lose Series Finale at Stetson 5-2

DELAND, Fla. - The University of Louisville baseball team couldn't overcome a five-run third inning as they lost to Stetson 5-2 in the deciding game of their three-game series Sunday.
The Hatters struck for five runs on five hits in the bottom of the third, including a two run double off the bat of Josh Clendenin.
With one away in the Cardinal fifth Isaiah Howes hammered a 1-1 pitch out to left for his first home run of the season, cutting the lead to 5-1. An out later Derrick Alfonso, Chris Cates and Boomer Whiting strung together consecutive singles to make it 5-2.
Chris Ingoglia (2-1) started for the Hatters and picked up the win, lasting 8.0 innings, allowing two runs on just five hits, striking out five. Robbie Elsemiller tossed a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his third save on the season.
Cardinal starter Justin Marks (0-1) took the loss, surrendering five runs on seven hits and a walk in three innings. He struck out two.
James Belanger entered in relief and retired all nine batters he faced in three perfect innings. Kyle Thornton gave up a hit and struck out two in an innings out of the pen. Colby Wark retired the side in order in the ninth for U of L.
The Cardinals will next host Morehead State on Wednesday in Jim Patterson Stadium at 2:00 p.m. ET. Admission is free.
