2006: Had season-ending surgery on his shoulder (3/15) and received a medical redshirt. Managed to steal seven bases on seven attempts before the surgery. Hit .293 with four doubles and four RBI from the leadoff spot in 11 games, scoring 10 runs. Compiled a .463 OB %. Went 2 for 5, walking, scoring three runs and stealing a pair of bases against EMU (3/4). Was hit by a pitch, walked and singled twice in two trips, scoring three runs and stealing three bases in win over Northwestern (2/24). Had two hits and two walks against Xavier (2/22). Opened the season with an eight-game hit streak.
2005: A Second Team All-Conference selection, swiped 26 bases - good for fourth all-time in Cardinal single season history, and was hit by a pitch 14 times (T2nd). Is now fifth all-time in U of L history in HBP(27). His 32 career steals is good for eighth place in Cardinal history. Hit .327 on the season, with nine doubles, a triple and four home runs. Was errorless in the field. Lead the team with 24 multi-hit games. Logged a career-long 13-game hit streak. Was 23 for 31 when bunting for a base hit. Went 2 for 4 and was hit by a pitch in win over UAB (5/19). Swiped a pair of bases in 1 for 3 effort, scoring twice and walking twice in win over Evansville (5/17). Picked up two hits and scored twice in win at #24 TCU (5/14). Was 3 for 5 with three RBI in win over Butler (5/10). Went 2 for 4 with a triple and a two-run home run in win at Charlotte (5/8). Also walked and was hit by a pitch, driving in three and scoring twice. Was 2 for 5 with a walk and a stolen base in win at Charlotte(5/6). Swiped two more bases on 2 for 3 day, scoring two and driving in two in win over MSU (4/27). Was 3 for 5 with a pair of runs scored and his 16th steal in win at Houston (4/10). Scored twice, walked, was hit by a pitch and drove in two runs in win at WKU(4/6). Homered to left at Cardinal Stadium, with two hits, two RBI and two runs against UK (3/30). Hit his second career home run, leading off the Cardinal win over #1 Tulane (3/25), going 2 for 5 with two runs scored. Was 3 for five in series opening win at UC(3/18). Was 2 for 3 with a sac bunt and three stolen bases in win at UC (3/20a). Went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and one driven in helping the Cards to an 8-7 win over NIU (3/15). Belted his first career home run to open the first in 7-6 win over #12 Georgia (3/12a). Was 3 for 5 with two RBI, two runs and a double to go with the HR. Was 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles, was hit by a pitch twice, had two RBI and three runs scored in win over Miami (3/6b). Went 8 for 8 on steals in a four-game stretch in which the Cards were 3-1 (2/23-2/27). Had four consecutive multi-hit games, going 2 for 5 with two runs and two stolen bases in 8-7 win over EKU (2/23). Had five hits in the Kent series, scoring four times from the leadoff spot.
2004: Spent the season as the everyday centerfielder and lead the team with 10 sac bunts. Went 5 for 6 on steals. Was 2 for 3 with a double in win over TCU(5/2a). Went 2 for 4 with two RBI and two runs scored against TCU(4/30). Tied a school and C-USA record with three sac bunts in win over UC(3/26), one away from the NCAA mark. Also singled in a run. Doubled home the game winner in the 10th in win at UAB(3/20). Went 3 for 4 with a run to go with the RBI. Ripped an RBI triple and scored in Sunday game against Illinois State(2/29). Was 2 for 6, scoring three runs and driving in two on a clutch double in win over SDSU(2/21).
2003: Earned Conference USA All-Freshman Team recognition. Was three for five, scoring twice in series opening win over TCU(5/15). Was 3 for 3 in win over IPFW(4/29). Drilled a two-run single with one out in the ninth in a tie ballgame, giving the Cards a 7-5 win at Cincinnati(4/11). Scored four runs against the Bearcats(/4/12). Blasted a bases-loaded double and a triple in win over Evansville(4/1), scoring two and driving in two, and followed it up the next day with another triple and RBI. Was 5 for 10 in weekend series against USF with a pair of runs and a pair of sac bunts. Drilled a triple to the gap in left, scoring twice against USM(3/21). Went 4 for 8 in first two games of Memphis series, scoring once and adding a walk, sacrifice and first career stolen base. Scored twice after walking and bunting for a base hit in win over WKU(3/11). Made his college debut in right field in the Cardinals win over Illinois(3/9). Singled and walked, picking up one of the teams' three hits.
High School: Lettered in track, football and baseball while at Wilmington Area HS. A four-year letter winner at shortstop, earned All-Conference all four years. Hit .430 with a school record 30 steals his junior season. Team MVP his senior year. Swiped 73 bases during his four years. Also a two-time All-Conference selection in track, setting the 100m dash record at 10.5 seconds. Earned All-Conference honors as a junior and senior running back and defensive back as well as All-State as a DB twice. Amassed 1,654 and 30 TD's his junior season as the team advanced to the state semifinals. Named New Castle News Athlete of the Year while with the Greyhounds.
Personal: Born 5/11/83 to Bob and Susan Whiting in Houston, Texas. Major is sports administration. His dad and brother are his greatest influences on him athletically. Favorite athletes are Kenny Lofton and Juan Pierre. Favorite TV shows are Playmakers, Survivor and Temptation Island. Likes to listen to R & B and rap, lift, and play football in his spare time. His dream dinner dates would be his mom, dad and brother, "because they are my idols." His dad and brother both played college football. Max & Erma's Tortilla Soup and mashed potatoes and gravy are his favorite foods. The Pirates, Steelers, Browns and Indians are his favorite teams.
