
Bulls Beat U of L 6-3 Friday

TAMPA, Fl. - Brian Baisley's two-run triple in the third highlighted a four-run frame that put USF up for good in a 6-3 win over the University of Louisville Friday night at Red McEwen Field.
USF's Addison Maruszak was hit by an 0-2 pitch and moved to third on an single by Kris Howell with one away in the first. An RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Brian Baisley plated Maruszak for a 1-0 lead.
The Cardinals (15-20, 6-5 BIG EAST) evened the score in the top of the second when Derrick Alfonso doubled to right center, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI single by Michael Urti.
The Bulls then took the 5-1 lead with the four-run third.
Logan Johnson was hit by a pitch to open the sixth and later scored on a double to the alley in left by Alfonso, cutting the lead to 5-2.
Josh LeRoy's sac fly to right plated an unearned run in the Bulls half of the sixth to regain a four-run lead.
With two out in the ninth, Pete Rodriguez doubled to left and score on a single by Nick Haley. A single by Chris Cates put the tying run at the plate, but Johnson took a called third strike to end the game.
U of L starter Jake Smith dropped to 1-2 with the loss, allowing four earned runs on six hits and three walks in 4.2 innings. He struck out seven. Mike Lynn gave up an unearned run on two hits in an inning and a third out of the pen
Trystan Magnuson allowed a hit, retiring two. Andrew Salgueiro gave up a hit and struck out one in an inning and a third.
USF's Daniel Thomas improves to 2-4 with the win, working six plus innings and allowing two runs on five hits and a walk, striking out four. Nick Manganaro also fanned four, earning his first save of the season, giving up a run on three hits in the final three innings.
Alfonso picked up his second two hit game of the series, smacking a pair of doubles. Cates and Rodriguez also had two hits apiece.
U of L will try to avoid a sweep on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. ET. The Cards have now lost five straight to the Bulls.
