Bloomington, Ind. - The Eighth ranked Indiana Hoosiers scored two goals in the first half to shutout the Cardinals 2-0 on Wednesday evening in Bill Armstrong Stadium. Junior goalkeeper Tyler Wilcox finished the game with a career-high 10 saves, holding off an aggressive Hoosier offense.
"It was a very one-sided game," said head coach Tony Colavecchia. "It was embarrassing the way that we started the game. We didn't look good in warm-ups and that is always not a good sign. I thought that we gave them a lot of good looks and then a goal on the corner kick. After the first goal we then hung our heads.
"We made some adjustments in the second half and I switched to a 4-4-2 and that made it more of a game in the second half. Indiana is a very talented team and they have a lot of offensive weapons."
The Hoosier offense went after the Cardinals from the kickoff. Indiana struck in the 3rd minute of play when Louisville native John Michael Hayden scored on a corner kick. Cardinal keeper Tyler Wilcox got a hand on it but was unable to clear it.
Indiana's Pat Yates scored on a one-on-one with Wilcox in the 42nd minute of play to put the Hoosiers up 2-0 at the half. Indiana finished the first half with 10 corner kicks while the Cardinals finished without one. The Hoosiers had 12 shots in the first half compared to the Cards' one shot.
The Cardinals best shot to score was in the 66th minute of play when Nathaniel Gerstle shot the ball from 18 yards out, Indiana keeper Jay Nolly was able to deflect the ball for the save.
Indiana finished the game with 30 shots and 13 corner kicks. The Cardinals finished the game with four shots, three in the second half and one corner kick.
Louisville will wrap up a three game road stand at Cincinnati on Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
