Cincinnati, Ohio - The Cincinnati Bearcats scored four goals in the second half to defeat the Louisville Cardinals 5-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals fall to 5-8-4 on the year and 2-4-1 in conference play.
"Cincinnati is a really good Conference USA Tournament team," said head coach Tony Colavecchia. "They took advantage of the chance they created today. They are a team that is in good form right now. We went into the second half very optimistic, being just one goal down.
"I haven't lost faith in this team. We have a lot of quality players and we can still qualify for the tournament. The next two games are must win situations. We had a tough three game road swing and hopefully the players have learned from it and become more resilent. We will be very prepared for these next two games."
UC's Jeremiah Gellagos scored in the fourth minute of play to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead early in the game. The Cardinal defense tightened up and held off the Bearcats for the first half, going into the locker room only down one goal.
In the second minute of the second half, Cincinnati's Patrick Wiremu was able to convert a scramble in front of the Cardinal goal past Charlie Edwards, to go up 2-0. Cincinnati's Amir Ikher scored off a header in the 53rd minute of play. Then late in the game, Jeff Huges scored back-to-back goals to secure the Bearcat victory.
Louisville finished the game with four shots on goal and Ewards finished with six saves.
The Cardinals will host UAB on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 7:00 p.m. in Cardinal Park. Louisville will hold senior ceremonies before the game.
