2008: Enjoyed a phenomenal sophomore campaign, batting .365 with 13 doubles, 21 HR and 75 RBI. Drafted in the 5th round by the Colorado Rockies. Earned Third Team All-America honors from Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, NCBWA and PING!Baseball. Named BIG EAST Co-Player of the Year and First Team All-BIG EAST. Was the MVP of the BIG EAST Championship and a member of the All-Tournament team, gathering two hits in each game. He is 10th on the career HR list with 36 and places himself tied for 7th in single season HRs, belting 21, tied for 8th in runs with 68 and tied for 6th in RBI with 75. Was 2-for-4 with yet another tape-measure HR against Georgia Tech in the NCAA Regional (5/30). Went 2-for-4 with an intentional walk in the BIG EAST championship game. Launched a three-run shot off of the scoreboard in left center at Bright House Field in win over Villanova in BIG EAST semifinal (5/23). Bashed a two-run jack out of Bright House Field, driving in three in win over Nova (5/21) in the BE Championship. Went 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs in tournament opening win over Seton Hall (5/20). Homered twice in win over Ball State (5/13), the third time on the season and 6th time in his career. Drilled a pair of solo HRs in win over WVU (5/10) in series opener, driving in three. Walked three times and scored three runs in win at IU (5/6). Drove in three in win over UC (4/26). Had a monster game in win over UK (4/22), putting the Cards in the lead with a sac fly, re-tying the game with a leadoff HR in the eighth and winning the game with a two-out walk-off single in the ninth. Was four for his first nine, driving in four and extending career-long hit streak to 11 games in first two wins over Villanova (4/19). Hit the middle of three consecutive HRs in win at OSU (4/16), scoring three times. Drilled a two-run jack at USF (4/13). Went 3-for-5, hammering a double and a two-run HR, driving in three runs in win at USF (4/11). Crushed his ninth HR of the season to put the Cards on top at UK (4/48). Collected three hits and scored two runs, including a straight steal of home at Pitt (3/28). Homered for third time in four games, going 2-for-6 with two runs against UConn (3/22). Went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, adding his sixth HR of the season in win over UConn (3/20). Posted five straight multi-hit games and a career-best seven game hit streak (3/2-3/14). Homered in 3-for-5 effort in win over Kent (3/14). Was 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI, launching a titanic blast over the berm in left field in the win over EKU (3/5). Went 3-for-5 at the plate in win over NCAT (3/2), notching his fourth career two-HR day - a solo shot to left-center and a two-run blast off the batter's eye in center.
2007: Belted 19 doubles and 15 HRs, driving in 61 and scoring 47. Was 9-for-12 on steals on the season. Selected as a PING!Baseball Honorable Mention Freshman All-American. Was fourth in the BIG EAST in HRs and total bases and sixth in RBI. Ranked 41st in the nation in HRs. Went on a postseason tear, hitting .318 with two doubles, a triple, 15 runs, eight HRs, 19 RBI, a .444 OBA and .955 slugging % in just 44 AB and 11 games. Cracked three HRs in the College World Series, driving in three runs against Rice (6/15) and Mississippi State (6/17). Went 2-for-5 and scored twice in Super Regional championship game against OSU (6/10). Homered in his fourth-straight game in Super Regional win over OSU (6/8). Selected NCAA Columbia Regional MVP, batting .421 (8 for 19) with two doubles, a triple, four HRs and 11 RBI, posting a 1.263 slugging %. Hit a first-inning grand slam, doubled in the second and added a three-run shot in the fourth in the championship game, driving in seven runs. Belted a game-tying two-run HR in the eighth inning of the Sunday night win over Missouri (6/3). Also hit a two-run shot earlier in the day to help end Miami's season. Drilled a two-run double to seal win over Rutgers in the BE Championship (5/23), collecting three hits on the afternoon. Cracked a pair of solo HRs to bookend the scoring in a series-clinching win over Cincinnati (5/19). Doubled home the game winners in the eighth in 3-1 win over Notre Dame (5/12). Went 2-for-4 with a tape-measure three-run HR to center against USF (4/27). Notched first career four-hit game in win at Seton Hall (4/20), driving in two runs and smoking a pair of doubles and a triple, while adding six assists in the field. Doubled twice and drove in two in win over Kentucky (4/11). Crushed his third HR of the season in win at Villanova (3/24). Singled, scored walked, stole a base and added four assists at third in win over ISU (3/9). Singled in the game winner in the bottom of the 11th against Illinois State (3/3). Doubled and homered in each of his first two games, driving in five and scoring three runs. Also spent time on the mound, making 11 appearances. Worked an easy 1-2-3 inning, striking out one against EKU(5/2). Struck out two in an inning at UK (4/25). Wrapped up the win at WKU (4/17) with an easy 1-2-3 ninth. Tossed a perfect inning and two-thirds, striking out two in win at EKU (3/21). Made his collegiate debut on the mound striking out one in a scoreless ninth in win over Xavier (3/17). Spent the summer with the Harwich Mariners in the Cape Cod league.
2006: Suffered a broken forearm in the third game of the season, forcing him to take a medical redshirt. Doubled at Miami (2/15) in his first NCAA game. Led the NECBL in HRs with 11 - more than four teams in the league, on his way to being named the #4 prospect according to Baseball America while playing for the Southern Division champion Newport Gulls. He added five doubles and 23 RBI, playing in all 42 games for the Gulls. In the playoffs, Went 5-for-18 (.278) with a double, triple and HR, driving in a team-best four runs in five games before the Gulls were eliminated in the divisional championship series.
High School: Earned four letters in baseball as an infielder and was tabbed top prep 3B and #11 overall prospect by Baseball America. An AFLAC and Playstation High School All-American, two-time All-State, All-Dade County. Played in the 2004 East Coast Baseball Showcase, the 2004 North/South All-Star game and in the Perfect Game National Tournament. Touted as the 5th best 2005 prospect at the 2003 Area Code games, and was a member of the 2002 USA Baseball Youth National Team. Batted .400 with five HRs and 35 RBI as a senior.
Personal: Born 11/22/86 in Los Angeles to Lazaro and Maria Dominguez. He is considering business as his major. Has one brother, Lazaro Jr. Would like to play pro ball after college. His family is his greatest influence on him. Major League, Cinderella Man and Men of Honor are his favorite movies. Likes to watch Baseball Tonight and Cribs on the tube. His favorite athletes are Bruce Lee and A-Rod. Mariners, Marlins and Yankees are his favorite teams. Likes to draw and listen to Brazilian jazz and hip-hop in his spare time. Likes to eat Cuban food.
