Cardinals Host First-Ever Meeting with Stanford
April 09, 2026 | Baseball
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville baseball team returns home for a three-game series against Stanford beginning on Friday at 6 p.m. ET. The first two games of the weekend will air on ACC Network Extra with the finale on the ACC Network. All three games can be heard on 93.9 The Ville.
BATTLE OF THE BLUEGRASS LOSS
The Cardinals took a 4-2 loss at Kentucky on Tuesday in the first of two Battle of the Bluegrass games this spring. Louisville managed just two hits in the loss but left 12 runners on base.
HOME SWEET HOME
Louisville just finished a five-game road swing and returns to the friendly confines of Jim Patterson Stadium. The Louisville offense has been a different animal at home this season, averaging nearly 11 runs per game with a .367 average in 21 home games.
A FIRST TIME OPPONENT
This weekend's series marks the first meeting between the two programs. Stanford has played in 19 College World Series, four since 2007 when Dan McDonnell took Louisville for the first time. However, the two programs have not reached the CWS in the same season.

TEAM NOTES
- The Cardinals have won 38 of their 52 ACC series at home since debuting in the conference.
- UofL is 62-42-2 in its 106 all-time ACC series (one series ended 1-1, one ended 1-1-1) since joining the league and is 69-34-1 in its series finales during that span, including a 25-20-1 record in rubber games.
PLAYER NOTES
- Tague Davis set the Louisville freshman home run record with 18 long balls in his first season. The first baseman tied for the ACC regular season lead in home runs and was the first Louisville freshman to hit double-digit homers since Alex Binelas in 2019. Davis homered in five consecutive games from March 6-11, joining Mark Jurich in 2004 as the only Cards to homer in five straight since 2000. Davis heads into the weekend as the national leader in RBIs at 63, 10 more than the second-most. The sophomore is also second nationally in home runs and total bases, leading the ACC in both categories. He's also fourth in the country in slugging percentage, ninth in runs and 13th in hits.
- Zion Rose led the Cardinals last season with 67 RBIs and ranked fourth in the ACC in stolen bases, fifth in RBIs, fifth in triples, seventh in runs, 11th in hits and 12th in total bases. The Chicago native was one of just three players in 2025 to have 10 homers, 15 doubles, 30 stolen bases and 60 RBIs. However, Rose has missed games in two different stints this season due to injury. When he's been in the lineup though, Rose has shown how dynamic he can be. In 11 starts this season, Rose is hitting .512 with eight extra-base hits, 19 RBIs, 18 runs scored, and is 8-for-8 in stolen bases.
- Bayram Hot split time at second base in 2025 in his first season with the Cardinals after transferring from Marist, hitting .326 with three doubles and three homers in 92 at-bats. The senior has started every game this spring at third base and has been excellent at the plate. Hot leads the team with a .405 average and currently ranks top 10 in the ACC in batting average, hits, on-base percentage and hit by pitch.
- Ethan Eberle worked his way from middle innings reliever to a high leverage bullpen spot, to ultimately starting on the weekends for the Cards as a freshman. The southpaw finished with a 6-2 overall record in 20 appearances, making 10 starts. Eberle struck out 15 batters in his start at Duke, becoming just the third Louisville starter since 2000 to strike out at least 15 in a game. Reid Detmers struck out 16 against Georgia Tech in 2019 and 15 versus Wake Forest in 2020, while Brendan McKay punched out 15 versus Pitt in 2017.
