Cardinals Lose Series Opener to Stanford
April 10, 2026 | Baseball
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville baseball team lost 12-2 in the series opener against Stanford on Friday night at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Louisville (19-15, 5-8 ACC) scored the opening two runs of the game before giving up 12 unanswered in the loss.
The Cardinals wasted no time getting into the scoring column Friday, needing just three batters to plate their first run.
Griffin Crain, Lucas Moore and Zion Rose started Louisville's half of the first with consecutive singles, the last of which brought home the opening tally. Tague Davis walked to load the bases and a double play groundball scored Moore to make it a 2-0 game.
Wyatt Danilowicz put zeros on the board in the first two frames before running into trouble in the third. A two-out soft single to left tied the game at two and a three-run homer gave Stanford the lead.
Stanford (15-15, 5-8) would then tack on three unearned runs in the fifth to chase Danilowicz from the game.
Casen Murphy came on in relief of Danilowicz and worked a scoreless 2.1 innings with just one hit allowed. Zane Stahl added a shutout frame of his own.
Stanford added four to the final tally with one swing in the ninth, hitting a grand slam.
The Louisville bats were quiet after the early outburst. The Cardinals had three hits through three batters and managed just one more the rest of the way.
Louisville and Stanford continue the weekend series on Saturday with first pitch set for 2 p.m. ET.
