Cardinals Travel to Face Northern Kentucky
August 24, 2024 | Women's Soccer
This is the first road game of the season for the Cards
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville women's soccer team is set to hit the road for the first time this season to close out the weekend. The Cardinals are taking the quick trip up I-71 to face Northern Kentucky Sunday evening. The Cardinals (2-0-1) and Norse (0-2-0) will square off from Highland Heights at 5 p.m. ET and it will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Cardinals are unbeaten through the first three games of the season and a big reason for that is the offensive outburst. Louisville has scored 11 goals in three games and have nearly matched their scoring output from all of last season. The Cardinals scored 15 goals across 18 games last season.
Louisville has had multiple different players find the scoresheet early on this season. Eight different players have scored this year after only having nine players score all of last season. The Cards had four players score a team-best two goals last season and they already have three players with two goals this season.
The Cardinals defense has also been strong to begin the season. Louisville has not allowed a single shot in each of the three first halves this year. The Cards have only allowed six shots total through the first three games.
Northern Kentucky is 0-2 so far this season and this will be their second home game of the season. It will be the fifth matchup between the two teams and the Cards hold a 3-0-1 series advantage. The last time the Cardinals traveled to Highland Heights in 2022, they came away with a 1-0 win after a first half goal from Karsyn Cherry.
Following Sunday's game in Northern Kentucky, the Cardinals will return to campus but head out on the road for their next match. The Cards will go back up 1-71 to take on Cincinnati on Thursday, August 29.
