Cardinals Complete Day 2 Prelims at NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS -- The University of Louisville Cardinals will race tonight in the relays after Day 2 preliminaries at the 2024 NCAA Men's Swimming Championships at the Indiana University Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI.
In the 500 freestyle, Ilia Sibirtsev had the lead two minutes into the race but was challenged down the stretch before touching fourth in his heat and 20th overall with a time of 4:14.59. Georgia's Jake Magahey will be the top seed going into tonight's finals after posting a 4:09.36.

In the 200 IM, Jackson Millard finished second in his heat with a 1:43.96 to end up finishing 35th overall. California's Destin Lasco will be the top seed heading into tonight's final with a 1:39.34.

In the 50 freestyle, Dalton Lowe hit his personal best with a 19.20 to finish fourth in his heat and 27th overall. The leader going into tonight's championship will be Josh Liendo of Florida, who went 18.33 to place him atop the field. Â

The Cardinals will compete in the 200 free relay in tonight's finals.

The University of Louisville has nine swimmers and three relay alternates in the field. Tommy Bried, Guy Brooks, Denis Loktev, Dalton Lowe, Jackson Millard, Denis Petrashov, Gustavo Saldo, Murilo Sartori and Ilia Sibirtsev have qualified in individual events.  Matias Santiso, Charlie Crush and Vladimir Dubinin will serve as relay alternates. The Cardinals also qualified all five relay events.
