Cardinals Send Four Swimmers to Finals at NCAA Championships on Day 2

ATHENS, Ga. -- The University of Louisville swimming and diving team will send four swimmers to the finals after Day 2 prelims at the 2024 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Jack Bauerle Pool at the Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Georgia
The Cardinals sprint group showed out in prelims as the Sprintcesses put three in the A-final, the first time in school history for three swimmers in the A-final. Christiana Regenauer qualified fourth with a time of 21.37. Gabi Albiero will be seeded fifth with a time of 21.54. Julia Dennis was in a three-way tie for seventh with a 21.71 and had to race again in a swim-off to determine her place. Her time of 21.83 in the swim-off put her in the A-final tonight. Karoline Barrett swam a 22.38, Ella Welch clocked in at 22.35 to round out the Cardinals' entries. Virginia's Gretchen Walsh set an NCAA record of 20.41 in prelims and will be the swimmer to beat in tonight's finals.
In the 200 IM, Fernanda Celidonio earned a second swim with her time of 1:55.21 which ranks her 15th going into the finals tonight. Tristen Ulett won heat 4 with a 1:56.38 to finish 23rd overall. Kim Herkle was fourth in heat five, turning in a 1:57.39 to finish 43rd. Rye Ulett turned in a 1:57.98, shaving off 1.33 from her entry time. Virginia's Alex Walsh will be the top seed in tonight's finals with her time of 1:51.55.
In 1M diving, Lindsay Gizzi posted a score of 249.80 to finish 33rd and Else Praasterink boarded a 247.75 to finish 34th.
In the 500 freestyle Summer Cardwell boarded a 4:44.27 in her heat. Florida's Emma Weyant's 4:34.32 will be the top seed in tonight's finals.
