
Men Win SMU Classic, Women are Second

Two day event and unique format took place in Dallas
DALLAS -- The University of Louisville men's swimming and diving team won the SMU Classic and the Cardinal women were second as the two-day meet came to a close Saturday afternoon in Dallas.

The men scored a winning 313 points ahead of Auburn's 312 followed by USC (305), Texas (270), Missouri (234) and SMU (227). The women scored 334 points, trailing only USC (345). Next came Auburn (289), Missouri (242), SMU (217), and Miami (Fla.) (205). Else Praasterink was named Diver of the Meet.

The event features each team bringing eight swimmers and one diver from each competing institution. Each swimmer may compete in three events per day, and events will be contested in two heats, with one swimmer from each school in each heat. Divers will compete on 1- and 3-meter. Scoring will be as follows: Individual: 16-13-12-11-10-9-7-5-4-3-2-1 Â and Relays: 24-20-18-16-14-12

In the first event of the day, USC's women won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:37.02 just edging the Cardinal A-relay that touched in 1:37.29. For the Cards, it was Paige Hetrick (25.21), Ella Welch (27.64), Christiana Regenauer (23.29) and Gabi Albiero (21.15) in the water. The Cardinals' men's relay team of Dalton Lowe (21.72), Denis Petrashov (23.80), Mateo Miceli (21.48), and Matias Santiso (19.79) put up the third place time of 1:26.79.

In the women's 500 freestyle, Rye Ulett was the top Cardinal with a third place time of 4:48.23. Madie Hall was ninth over all for the Cards with a 4:55.38. USC's Claire Tuggle won with a decisive 4:42.81, almost six seconds ahead of the field. The men's 500 was won by Krzysztof Chmielewski of USC, who put up a 4:15.18. Murilo Sartori was fourth with a 4:22.22 and Gustavo Saldo was seventh with a 4:23.27.

Denis Petrashov won the 200 breast with a time of 1:55.88. Tommy Bried was 11th with a 2:01.27. In the women's 200 breaststroke, Kim Herkle was second with a time of 2:10.98 for the Cardinals. Ella Welch was ninth with a time of 2:14.27. USC's Kaitlyn Dobler was first, stopping the clock at 2:08.59.Â

Paige Hetrick won the 200 back for the Cardinals with a time of 1:54.13, two seconds ahead of the field. Rye Ulette was eighth with a time of 1:56.18. On the men's side, Jackson Millard was third in the 200 back with a time of 1:44.34. Dalton Lowe was 10th with a time of 1:46.07.

Else Praasterink was fourth in 1M diving, putting up a score of 259.70. Missouri's Kayla Wilson won with a 269.00.

In 3M diving, Rayce Winn placed third with a mark of 334.75. Texas' Nicholas Harris won with a score of 386.00.

In the 100 freestyle, UofL's Gabi Albiero was first with a 47.67 and Christiana Regenauer was 8th with a time of 48.24. Cardinal Murilo Sartori was fourth with a time of 43.57 and Matias Santiso went 43.20.

In the 200 fly, Tristen Ulett placed fifth with her time of 2:03.28 and Madie Hall scored eighth place points  with a 2:00.29. In the men's 200 fly, Louisville's Gustavo Saldo put up a time of 1:46.31 with Mateo Miceli going 1:46.91 for ninth.

In the 200 IM, Kim Herkle turned in a time of 1:59.98 for second place for the Ville just behind USC's Minna Abraham's 1:57.51. Paige Hetrick turned in a 2:01.35 for 8th place points. In the men's 200 IM, Longhorn Nate Germonprez won with a 1:45.27. Louisville's Jackson Millard touched fourth with a 1:47.47 and Tommy Bried went 1:50.14 for ninth.

The Ville's women's 200 free relay team of Gabi Albiero (21.94), Christiana Regenauer (21.87), Tristen Ulett (23.05) and Ella Welch (22.26) combined for the winning time of 1:29.12. The Louisville men were second in their relay with a time of 1:19.59 put up by Dalton Lowe (19.70), Matias Santiso (19.79), Murilo Sartori (19.83) and Gustavo Saldo (20.27).
