No. 10 Cardinal Swimming and Diving Are First After Day 2 at Purdue Invitational

Cards continue to put up strong relay swims
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The No. 10 University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving team have maintained the lead after the second day of racing at the 3-day Purdue Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind.

The men have amassed 551.5 point for the lead followed by Purdue (539.5), Northwestern (337.5), California Baptist (326), Missouri State (226.5), Navy (193) and Southern Illinois (102). The Cardinal women have taken a commanding lead with a score of 655 followed by Northwestern (464.5), Purdue (357.5), Florida International (316), Missouri State (203), Marshall (138.5), California Baptist (119.5), Illinois State (111) and Southern Illinois (99).

The Cardinals won three of four relays and four individual events on the day.

The Louisville women's 200 Medley relay A team of Abby Hay (24.42), Cecilia Viberg (26.55), Christiana Regenauer (22.93) and Gabi Albiero (21.11) put together the winning time of 1:35.01. The B-Relay team of Tristen Ulett (25.01), Ella Welch (26.87), Karoline Bennett (23.17) and Julia Dennis (21.96) were second with a time of 1:37.01.

The Louisville men won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:24.52 put up by Dalton Lowe (21.37), Denis Petrashov (23.36), Abdelrahman El-Araby (20.77) and Michael Eastman (19.02).

The Louisville women took the top three spots in the 400 IM, with Paige Kuwata leading the way with the winning time of 4:14.73. Rye Ulett was second in 4:15.28 and Jordan Durocher was third in 4:15.75. Freshman Jackson Millard was edged by Northwestern's Tyler Lu with Millard touching in 3:50.96, just .5 off the winning time.

Gabi Albiero led a 1-2-3-4 sweep for the Cardinals in the 100 butterfly. Albiero clocked in at 51.18 just ahead of Christiana Regenauer's 51.62. Tristen Ulett was third in 51.93 and teammate Karoline Bennett was fourth in 53.08 for the Cards. Freshman Cardinal Charlie Crush was third as the top UofL finisher in the men's 100 fly with a time of 47.01. Dalton Lowe was fifth, going 47.22 and Abdelrahman El-Araby was sixth in 47.42.

Paige Hetrick won the 200 freestyle for the Cardinals, boarding a time of 1:45.96. Fernanda Celidonio was third with a time of 1:45.37. Cardinal Denis Loktev won the men's 200 free with a time of 1:34.38, dropping 1.24 seconds from his prelim time.

Sophomore Cecilia Viberg was second in the 100 breast as one of only two swimmers to touch sub one minute. Ella Welch was fifth with a time of 1:00.57. Aiden Kreiley was sixth in the men's 100 breaststroke.

Dalton Lowe was seventh in the men's 100 back with a time of 49.15.

In women's 1M diving, Jiselle Miller was fourth with a score of 270.70 just ahead of teammate Else Praasterink, who finished fifth with a score of 270.20 and Lindsay Gizzi was 8th with a mark of 248.30. Adam Sneden was the top Louisville finisher with a seventh place finish score of 268.80. Logan Smith was eighth with a mark of 268.80.

The Cardinals continued their relay streak with a win the women's 800 free relay. Tristen Ulett (1:46.74), Paige Hetrick (1:45.63), Gabi Albiero (1:46.14) and Christana Regenauer (1:47.31) put up the winning time of 7:05.82. The B-relay of Rye Ulett (1:48.09), Fernanda Celidonio (1:48.11), Ella Welch (1:52.10) and Paige Kuwata (1:49.66) went 7:18.96 for second.Â
