No. 2 Volleyball Hits the Road for BC and Syracuse

Louisville is 4-0 in ACC matches
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The No. 2-ranked University of Louisville volleyball team is taking its sparkling 4-0 ACC record on the road to Boston College on Friday, Oct. 7 at 7:00 p.m. before heading to Syracuse for a match on Oct. 9 at 1 p.m.

About the Cards
Louisville extended its unbeaten streak in the ACC play to 33 straight matches and moved its record to 13-1 overall and 4-0 in ACC play with wins over Clemson and No. 11 Georgia Tech last weekend. Against rival Georgia Tech,  Elena Scott had a career-high 26 digs, five assists, and two aces. Claire Chaussee led the team with 16 kills hitting .351, adding an ace, and nine digs. Aiko Jones notched 12 kills hitting .385 with seven blocks. Phekran Kong also had seven blocks and notched five kills. Amaya Tillman led the team in blocks with eight, adding ten kills. Raquel Lazaro  in her first start back after missing the Clemson match with an ankle injury, had 42 assists, three kills, 12 digs, an ace, and five blocks.
About the Eagles
Boston College lost 25-21, 25-20, and 25-20 to Wake Forest on Sunday afternoon, and fell to Virginia Tech 27-25, 25-12, 25-12 last Friday to move to 13-5 on the season and 1-3 in the ACC. The Eagles soared out to their best 16-game start in program history at 13-3 after five set wins against Duke and Bryant the week prior. Â The Eagles are led by outside hitter Kate Brennan, who leads the conference in hitting with a .449 average. BC gets strong serving from Sophia Lambros, who is third in the ACC in service aces. Julia Haggerty provides defense as the fourth best blocker in the league with a 1.26 roofs per set.Â
About the Orange
Polina Shemanova led Syracuse to a 2-0 weekend on the road with victories over Wake Forest and Virginia Tech. She posted double-digit kills and recorded a .404 hitting clip across the two victories. In the match against Wake Forest, Shemanova hit a season-high 28 kills. Against Virginia Tech on Sunday the outside hitter locked in 24 kills and hit .500 After Shemanova's 52 kills weekend she is rapidly approaching the all-time career kills record  The Orange are currently undefeated in league play and are on a four-match winning streak in ACC Play, a conference streak to open league action that the squad has not seen since the 2018 season.

Louisville has the nation's second-longest winning streak against conference opponents. The Cardinals have won 33 consecutive league matches. The last team to beat Louisville was Pitt on Oct. 23, 2020. WKU has the longest streak in the nation at 48 straight in CUSA.
Mbonu to the Rescue
Nena Mbonu stepped in for the injured Anna DeBeer and got her first two starts of the season against Miami and Florida State. She hit .636 with 8 kills against the Hurricanes and hit .563 with 10 kills against FSU. She had nine kills versus both Clemson and GT.
