Outside hitter Chloe Chicoine led UofL with 11 kills on a .409 hitting percentage

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 7-ranked University of Louisville volleyball team swept No.16 Indiana in dominating fashion (25-20, 25-12, 25-11) in Friday night's home opener at L&N Federal Credit Union Arena.

Louisville (2-1) protected home court by holding the Hoosiers (0-1) to only 26 kills on a .043 hitting percentage. The Cards offense added 39 kills on a .346 hitting percentage.

Outside hitter Chloe Chicoine led UofL once again with 11 kills on a .409 hitting percentage. She added seven digs and three total blocks to the Cards' defensive efforts. Outside hitter Chloe Meester tallied 10 kills and earned a team-high three aces. Opposite Kalyssa Blackshear recorded nine kills and stuffed four total blocks.

SET 1
The Hoosiers gained their only lead with the first point of the set, before the Cards scored four straight points to gain an early edge 4-1. The teams battled back and forth until Meester earned back-to-back kills to give UofL the 10-4 lead, forcing an IU timeout. The Cardinals continued to keep the Hoosiers at arm's length, bringing the lead to as high as seven after a Nayelis Cabello ace made the score 22-15. The Hoosiers fought back within three but back-to-back kills by Chicoine secured UofL the set win.

SET 2
The teams traded blows early on with neither team earning more than a one-point lead and Indiana holding a 6-5 advantage through the first 11 points. The Cards caught fire with a 13-3 run, which featured four blocks from Hannah Sherman, to bring the lead to 18-9. IU scored the first two points out of the break, but the Cards fought back with a 7-1 run to claim the 13-point set win.

SET 3
Louisville carried its momentum into the third set with a 5-0 run out of the gate capped by back-to-back Meester aces to force an IU timeout. UofL scored two more out of the break before IU got on the board for the first time. The Hoosier scoring was short-lived as the Cardinals went on an 8-2 run highlighted by a block by Elli Strecker and Cabello to give the Cards a 15-4 lead heading into the media timeout. The teams traded points again until IU called a timeout with Louisville up 20-9. Blair Thiebaud and Strecker stuffed a block as UofL outlasted the Hoosiers with a 5-2 run to secure the match sweep.

The Cards will stay at home to host Dayton on Monday, Aug. 31 at L&N Federal Credit Union Arena. First serve is set for 6 p.m. ET, and the match will be streamed on ACCNX.
