No. 4 Louisville Sweeps Notre Dame in ACC Home Opener
September 30, 2026 | Women's Volleyball
The victory extends UofL’s winning streak against the Fighting Irish to 10 matches.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 4-ranked University of Louisville volleyball team swept Notre Dame (25-16, 25-18, 25-18) on Wednesday evening at L&N Federal Credit Union Arena.
Louisville (13-2, 3-0 ACC) continued its dominance on the offensive side of the floor, hitting .353 with 39 kills while serving up seven aces. The Cards' defense held Notre Dame (4-7, 1-1 ACC) to just a .134 clip while tallying 37 digs and stuffing 11 blocks.
"Great win against Notre Dame, our travel partner," said Dan & Maria Durbin Head Coach Dan Meske. "We've gone five [sets] with them a lot, had some battles, and I can't remember a time we handled them as well as we did tonight. We hit .350, we held them to .130, it was nice to see double-digit blocks again, and obviously, Chloe Meester really went off. It was just top-to-bottom a really good performance."
Outside hitter Chloe Meester led the charge for Louisville's offense, hitting .579 with 13 kills while adding four aces. The outing marks her 10th double-digit kill performance of the year and the third time this season she has hit over.500. Outside hitter Chloe Chicoine added 12 kills on a .333 clip, her 14th match with double-digit kills and 12th match with at least a .300 hitting percentage.
Setter Nayelis Cabello orchestrated the Cardinals to a .353 hitting percentage, dishing out 32 assists to facilitate Louisville's offense. The junior also showed out on the defensive side of the court, totaling 10 digs and stuffing four blocks to cap her all-around performance.
SET 1
The teams played neck-and-neck to start the match as neither squad earned more than a two-point lead through the first 14 points. With the score tied at 7 apiece, a kill by Kalyssa Blackshear and back-to-back aces by Meester boosted the Cards to a 10-7 lead. Notre Dame scored three of the next four to come within one at 11-10, but UofL regained momentum with a quick 4-1 run to head into the media timeout up 15-11. Louisville stayed hot out of the break, going on a 7-2 run that featured three kills by Meester to come within three points of victory at 22-13. Notre Dame inched back but a kill by Blackshear secured UofL the 25-16 win.
SET 2
The back-and-forth affair continued as the teams played even at 8 apiece through the first 16 points. The Cards ignited with a 7-1 scoring spree to head into the media timeout up 15-9. Meester powered the Cardinals' run with a pair of kills and a block to help give UofL the six-point advantage. Louisville kept the Fighting Irish at arm's length for much of the second half of the set, cruising to within two points of victory at 23-16. Notre Dame scored a pair of points but a Fighting Irish service error and solo block by Brooke Bultema secured the Cards the 25-18 win.
SET 3
The Cards dominated out of the gate, jumping out to a 10-2 lead early in the third with Chicoine recording three straight kills in that run to help push the pace for UofL's offense. Notre Dame fought back but Louisville maintained its distance heading into the media timeout up 15-7. The Cardinals scored first out of the break, but the Fighting Irish answered with a 10-5 run to come within four at 21-17. Louisville scored four of the next five points, with Meester's 13th kill of the night securing UofL the 25-18 win and the sweep.
