The Cards improve to 9-0 in ACC play for the first time since 2022.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 3-ranked University of Louisville volleyball team continued its hot streak, sweeping Florida State (25-21, 25-13, 25-15) on the road on Friday night.
Louisville (19-2, 9-0 ACC) remains atop the league standings with an unblemished 9-0 record in ACC play, the first time the Cardinals have won at least nine straight matches to start conference play since the 2022 season.
"It's a great win on the road against a great program," said Dan & Maria Durbin Head Coach Dan Meske. "They pushed us big-time at the beginning of the match, and I thought we responded really well. Florida State defends really well; I thought they really slowed down our offense, and [Nayelis Cabello] was great responding to that and got everybody involved. Chloe Chicoine led us again in kills and did a great job, Brooke Bultema blocking balls like crazy, and we needed everybody. Even though we swept, it was a tough, hard-fought win on the road."
The Louisville defense was the story of the day, racking up 54 digs and 11.5 team blocks while holding Florida State (10-9, 4-4 ACC) to a .009 hitting percentage and forcing 26 Seminole attacking errors.
Middle blocker Brooke Bultema tied her career high with nine blocks, including three solo, while four different Cardinals tallied double-digit digs on the evening, led by 13 from libero Payton Petersen.
Outside hitter Chloe Chicoine secured a double-double with a team-leading 10 kills and 11 digs to pace the Louisville offense, which concluded the match with 35 kills on a .210 team hitting percentage. Setter Nayelis Cabello also earned a double-double, her team-leading 12th of the season, with 20 assists, 12 digs, four kills and four blocks.
SET 1
The two teams played even through the first 20 points of the match, as four early kills from Chicoine powered the Louisville attack. With the Cardinals holding an 11-10 lead, Florida State reeled off four consecutive points to gain separation. The Seminoles continued to keep the Cards at arm's length out of the media timeout, but Louisville was able to put together an 11-3 run to close the set, closing it out with a Cabello kill to take the first set 25-21. Louisville notched five team blocks in the first set while holding Florida State to a -.023 hitting percentage.
SET 2
The Cardinals managed to keep their momentum rolling into the second set, opening up a 7-2 lead that included aces from Hannah Kenny and Chloe Meester. After Florida State cut the deficit to three at 9-6, Louisville rattled off seven straight points to take a commanding 16-6 lead. The Cards kept Florida State from stringing a run together for the remainder of the set, as another Cabello kill gave the Cardinals a 25-13 lead and a 2-0 lead heading into the locker room. Meester keyed the Cardinals' offense in the second set, putting down six kills as the Cards hit .375 for the set.
SET 3
Louisville opened an early lead at 9-5 after a string of Florida State errors and solo blocks from Bultema and Chicoine. The two teams traded multiple service errors before the Seminoles cut the lead down to two at 13-11. Louisville responded with a 9-2 burst that included three consecutive kills from Chicoine, Meester and Cabello to go up 22-13. A kill from Addison Makun secured the sweep for the Cards, as Louisville took the final set 25-15. Florida State finished the set with a -.051 hitting percentage, committing nine attacking errors.
