Cardinals Open 2019 Season at Ohio State on Thursday Night

Cardinals kick off the 2019 on Thursday, Aug. 22 at 7:00 p.m.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Louisville women's soccer team opens the 2019 season at Ohio State on Bert L. & Iris S. Wolstein Field at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m.
Last season the Cardinals finished tied for fifth in the ACC with a record of 6-4, and made their fifth NCAA Championship appearance with an overall record of 12-7-0. The Cardinals return 10 starters and 20 letterwinners from last season. All five leading scorers return for the Cards – Brooklynn Rivers, Maisie Whitsett, Emina Ekic, Allison Whitfield, and Delaney Snyder.
Louisville also returns starting keeper Gabby Kouzelos and defenders Niamh Nelson, Arianna Ferraro, and Sarah Hernandez. The Cardinal defense held opponents to 1.05 goals and 6.6 shots per game during the 2018 season. Louisville finished the year with seven shutouts, including five ACC opponents. Kouzelos registered 38 saves for the Cardinals and holds a goals against average of 1.06.
Head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes is in her 20th season with the Cardinals. She has led Louisville to five NCAA tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2011.
SCOUTING OHIO STATE
The Buckeyes return six starters and 13 letterwinners from a 2018 team that finished third in the Big Ten with a 9-6-4 overall record. Ohio State made on its ninth NCAA Tournament appearances in the last 10 seasons.
Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year Devon Kerr and second team All-Big Ten midfielder Sarah Roberts highlight the returners for the Buckeyes. First team All-Big Ten selection Izzy Rodriguez is back along with 2018 Big Ten All-Freshman team picks Talani Barnett, Kayla Fischer and Emaly Vatne.
Ohio State is under the direction of 23rd-year head coach Lori Walker-Hock. The three-time Big Ten Coach of the Year has guided the team to 13 NCAA Tournament berths, two Big Ten regular season championships and three Big Ten Tournament championships. She has guided the Buckeyes to a 250-166-41 record and owns a career record of 263-189-45.
SERIES HISTORY
Ohio State leads the series 7-1 over the Cardinals. The Buckeyes are 4-0 against the Cardinals in Columbus. OSU won won six straight against Louisville between the 1993 season til 2004. The Cards lone win came on Sept. 16 , 2007 with a 2-0 win over the Buckeyes in Cardinal Park. In the last meeting in 2008 the Buckeyes defeated the Cardinals 2-1 in Columbus.

2019 SOCCER SEASON TICKETS ON SALE NOW
Season tickets for the 2019 University of Louisville soccer season are on sale now. Reserved chairback tickets are priced at $106 for adults, $85 for faculty/staff, and $85 per ticket for families of four or more. General admission/berm seating is priced at $53 for adults and families of four or more $40 per ticket.

Single match tickets are priced at $12 per ticket for reserved chairback seats, $6 per ticket for general admission/berm seats, and $4/$3 per ticket (depending on seat location) for groups of 10 or more.
Single match tickets will also be available for purchase on game days at the Lynn Stadium ticket windows starting one hour prior to kickoff. The women's team will play 11 regular season matches at Lynn Stadium, while the men have 10 scheduled regular season matches.
