The Oak Creek, Wisconsin, native has been a first team selection by five organizations.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Continuing to wrap up an outstanding first season, University of Louisville third baseman Alex Binelas added two more freshman All-America honors.
Binelas was a first team selection by Baseball America and D1Baseball, adding to his earlier first team nods by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, the NCBWA and Perfect Game. The Oak Creek, Wisconsin, native is the 17th player in program history to earn freshman All-America honors and 14th under head coach Dan McDonnell.
Binelas finished off his freshman campaign at .291 overall with 14 doubles, 14 home runs and 59 RBIs. He became the first Louisville freshman to hit double-digit homers since Chris Dominguez in 2007.
In his first season with the Cardinals, Binelas eased his way into the starting lineup following a slow start over the first month. However, the freshman went 2-for-4 with his first collegiate home run against Ole Miss on March 13 and never looked back.
From March 26-April 30, Binelas hit .453 (34-for-75) with 10 doubles, four triples and six home runs, while driving in 28 and scoring 32 times in just 20 games. The stretch saw his average peak at .369 and helped him earn a pair of ACC Player of the Week honors, as well as Perfect Game National Player of the Week recognition for April 22-28.
Binelas was an All-ACC second team selection and named to the All-NCAA Louisville Regional team. Following the season, he was one of four Louisville players invited to training camp for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team.
