PRACTICE DAY IN LUBBOCK FOR THE CARDINALS
Louisville conducted an 85-minute practice session at Rip Griffin Park on Thursday in preparation for the 2018 NCAA Regional in Lubbock. Following the practice, the Cardinals met with the media while later in the day, coach Dan McDonnell participated in a press conference with the head coaches for each of the four teams in the Lubbock Regional.Ā
ABOUT THE LOUISVILLE CARDINALS
Louisville is making its 11th NCAA postseason appearance in the last 12 seasons and the program's 12th NCAA appearance overall. The Cardinals take to the road for an NCAA Regional for the first time since finishing 2-2 and falling in the title game to host Arizona in the 2012 Tucson Regional. Having hosted an NCAA Regional in each of the last five seasons, Louisville enters the Lubbock Regional on a 15-game winning streak in NCAA Regional contests. The Cardinals have advanced to an NCAA Super Regional in each of the last five seasons, the nation's longest active streak.
The Louisville baseball team enters the 2018 NCAA Championship having won 23 of the last 29 games overall, including a trio of wins at last week's ACC Championship in Durham, North Carolina. The Cardinals had their six-game winning streak halted with Sunday's 11-8 loss in 10 innings to No. 7 Florida State in the ACC Championship title game. The nation's last unbeaten team for the second straight year after winning 14 straight games to open the 2018 season, Louisville is ranked in each of the six major national polls this week, including No. 21 in the Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll and the Perfect Game Top 25.
All-ACC First Team selections Josh Stowers and Logan Wyatt pace Louisville's offense. Stowers enters the NCAA Regional eighth in the nation in both stolen bases (33-of-40) and runs scored (66) while hitting .341 with nine home runs, 13 doubles and 59 RBIs. He has reached base safely in a career best 43 straight games. Wyatt is fifth in the NCAA in walks (59) and 12th in doubles (22) while hitting .336 with four home runs and 59 RBIs.Ā
The pitching staff is led by All-ACC Second Team honorees Adam Wolf and Nick Bennett and All-ACC Third Team selection Bobby Miller. Wolf has a 7-2 record, 2.26 ERA and 105 strikeouts in 95.2 innings and 15 starts. Bennett has an 8-1 mark, 2.20 ERA and 68 strikeouts in 69.2 innings, including 10 starts. Miller has a 5-1 record and 2.45 ERA in 58.2 innings this season, including eight starts.

NCAA REGIONAL SNAPSHOT FOR THE CARDINALSĀ
Louisville has a 37-25 record all-time in its 11 previous NCAA Championship appearances, including a 26-10 mark in NCAA Regional games. The Cardinals are 6-7 in NCAA Regional games away from home. Louisville has advanced to a Super Regional once in its four NCAA Regional appearances on the road -- 2007 when the Cardinals defeated Missouri to win the Columbia Regional.
SERIES HISTORY AND NOTES
⢠Louisville holds a 16-12 edge in the all-time series with Kent State, which dates to 1996. The Cardinals have won seven of the last eight against the Golden Flashes, including a 5-0 victory in the opening game of the 2014 NCAA Regional at Jim Patterson Stadium. That is the only previous meeting between the programs in the postseason.
⢠The Cardinals and Texas Tech split their only two previous meetings, which came earlier this season on March 13-14 at Jim Patterson Stadium. The Red Raiders opened the midweek series with an 8-4 victory before Louisville bounced back for a 7-4 win in the finale.Ā

STOWERS, WYATT LEAD EIGHT ALL-ACC HONORS FOR THE CARDINALSĀ
Louisville received eight ACC individual honors in 2018, highlighted by All-ACC First Team selections for outfielder Josh Stowers and first baseman Logan Wyatt. The announcement marked the first career All-ACC honors for both Stowers and Wyatt. They were joined by All-ACC Second Team starting pitchers Nick Bennett and Adam Wolf as well as All-ACC Third Team honorees Devin Mann (second baseman), Bobby Miller (starting pitcher) and Danny Oriente (designated hitter/utility player). Miller also received ACC All-Freshman Team recognition.
Louisville has earned seven or more All-ACC honorees in each of its four seasons in the league. The Cardinals have also placed at least one player on the All-Freshman Team all four seasons. Overall, UofL has accumulated 30 All-ACC selections, five ACC All-Freshman Team honorees and seven ACC major awards in the last four years.Ā
LOUISVILLE ADVANCES TO FIRST ACC CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE GAME
The Louisville baseball team made its first ever appearance in the title game of the ACC Championship falling 11-8 in 10 innings to Florida State. It marked the first postseason conference championship title game appearance for the Cardinals since falling to Houston (10-4) in the 2014 American Conference championship in Clearwater, Fla. Louisville last won a postseason
conference title in 2009 when they claimed the second of back-to-back Big East titles with an 11-3 win over UConn in Clearwater.
CARDINALS REGISTER SEVENTH STRAIGHT 40-WIN SEASON
With its victory against Notre Dame on May 19, Louisville clinched its seventh consecutive 40-win season, including the sixth straight 40-win regular season. UofL is the only program in the nation to win 40 or more regular season games in each of the last six seasons. The Cardinals have won at least 40 games in 11 of head coach Dan McDonnell's 12 seasons at the helm. Louisville had never registered a 40-win season prior to winning 47 games in McDonnell's first season as the head coach in 2007.
SUCCESS IN THE CLASSROOM CONTINUES FOR LOUISVILLE
While the Louisville baseball program continued its run of success on the diamond with its seventh straight NCAA Championship berth on Monday, the Cardinals also extended their impressive streak in the classroom in the spring registering a 3.26 cumulative GPA, the 14th consecutive semester with a team GPA of 3.0 or better.
A total of 27 members of the Louisville baseball team closed the 2018 spring semester with a 3.0 GPA or better. The current stretch of academic success for the Cardinals dates back to the fall semester in 2011. The span of 14 straight semesters with a team GPA of 3.0 of better coincides with unparalleled success on the field for Louisville, which has three College World Series appearances, five NCAA Super Regional berths, seven NCAA Regional bids and six conference championships during those seven seasons.
Last week, the Cardinals baseball program was among 10 UofL athletic teams to post perfect scores in the most recent single-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) data released by the NCAA. The 10 UofL sports with a perfect 1,000 single-year APR score for the most recent 2016-17 figures were baseball, women's basketball, women's cross country, women's golf, women's lacrosse, women's soccer, men's tennis and women's tennis, women's track and volleyball. Six additional Cardinal sports teams had a 2016-17 APR at 970 or above.
LOUISVILLE IN NATIONAL POLLS EVERY WEEK SINCE START OF 2012
Louisville, which surpassed its previous high national ranking of No. 2 (in 2016) with the No. 1 ranking on March 13 and March 20 during the 2017 season, has enjoyed a historic run by remaining ranked in at least one major national poll every week since the release of the 2012 preseason rankings -- the longest such span in school history. Ranked in the top 25 in all six major preseason polls for 2018, the Cardinals have earned a preseason national ranking in 11 straight seasons (2008-2018) overall. Louisville is ranked in all six major polls entering the 2018 NCAA Championship, including No. 21 in both the Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll and Perfect Game Top 25.
