Three Cardinals Chosen on Day Two of MLB Draft

White Sox select Henzman in fourth round, McClure in sixth round; Hairston goes to Brewers in sixth round
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The 2017 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft continued into its second day Tuesday with a trio of Louisville Cardinals selected. Junior righthanded pitcher Lincoln Henzman led the way going 117th overall to the Chicago White Sox in the fourth round and was followed by junior shortstop Devin Hairston, who went 174th to the Milwaukee Brewers in the sixth round, and junior righty Kade McClure, who was selected 177th by the White Sox in the sixth round.
Serving as the closer for the Cardinals this season, Henzman ranks second in the nation with 16 saves to go with his 3-0 record, 1.77 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 35.2 innings pitched and 25 total relief appearances. Thirteen of the Lexington, Kentucky native's 16 saves came against ACC foes, while opposing hitters are batting just .164 against him this season. The 16 saves for Henzman rank as the third most in a season by a Louisville player, while his 19 career saves are also third all-time.
Selected as the ACC Defensive Player of the Year, Hairston has performed at a high level at shortstop this season posting a .987 fielding percentage with just three errors in 233 chances. He has registered 87 putouts to go with 143 assists and has had a hand in turning 26 double plays. The Lexington, Kentucky native, who is a two-time All-ACC standout and an All-American selection in 2016, has a .306 batting average with three home runs, 51 RBI and 16 doubles while starting all 62 games this season.
McClure has an 8-3 record, 3.43 ERA and 102 strikeouts in 17 starts and 97.0 innings pitched. The Mentor, Ohio product has a 21-3 career record in three collegiate seasons to go along with 216 strikeouts in 207.1 innings. Last season, McClure earned All-America honors after registering a 12-0 record with a 2.54 ERA in 13 starts for the Cardinals.
On Monday, a pair of Cardinals were selected during the first two rounds of the MLB Draft as junior lefthander Brendan McKay became the highest draft selection in school history going fourth overall to the Tampa Bay Rays, while junior infielder Drew Ellis was selected 44th overall (second round) by the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 2017 MLB Draft concludes Wednesday at noon ET with rounds 11-40.
The No. 7 national seed Cardinals (52-10) will continue their season at the 2017 College World Series against Texas A&M on Sunday at 2 p.m., ET at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.
